Summer should be The Moment – whatever you’re doing this year, here’s why this season is truly worth celebrating…
We get it. During the summer months, there’s a lot of FOMO and social pressure baked into the season’s hazy weeks.
Whether it’s who’s holidaying where or how to have fun while keeping our finances in mind, it often feels like only grand plans qualify when it comes to making the most of the season.
But what if we turned that narrative on its head, showing up instead for the everyday wins worth celebrating? Sometimes it’s these moments that can taste even sweeter.
We spoke to five women to find out what they’re celebrating this summer and exactly how they plan to toast the season. Spoiler alert: you’ve a wholesome read ahead…
1. Summer in our first home
“After a whole lot of saving, stress and waiting for our new-build flat to be ready, my partner and I will finally be moving into our first home together this summer.
“We’re forgoing festivals, holidays and big social plans this season to keep our finances in check, but this has meant that we’re able to truly savour everyday moments that much more.
“I’m looking forward to the moment we’re unpacked – sitting at our new breakfast bar watching my boyfriend cook me dinner while I sip on a cool glass of Freixenet Italian Rosé, a record playing on the turntable and our dogs happily snoozing in the sunlight.”

2. Festival fun
“My homeware shop, Emilie Flora, is trading at festivals this year. I’m a one-woman team, so the last few months have been beyond busy with festival prep, making endless stock and trading at other events back-to-back in the lead-up to our biggest moment at the Glastonbury Festival.
“While this summer’s going to take a lot of hard work, I’m reminding myself to take a little time to step back and appreciate what this year’s given me.
“If I don’t take a moment to step back from the grind and boogy the night away with friends, I know I’ll look back and regret it. It can be all too easy to let life get in the way of savouring the little moments sometimes, so this summer I’m reminding myself to pause among the busy.”

3. The reset
“This summer’s not exactly going to be ‘summer’ as I’ve known it, as I’m currently on the other side of the world in Australia, managing a small vintage shop on Bondi Beach. We’re heading into our winter and I’m taking some time to, as they say, find myself.
“I’m learning that momentarily pressing the pause button and seeing life as a set of small moments is a really important mindset to adopt. Relishing a slower pace of life isn’t something we’re encouraged to do enough – and I’m embracing it this summer.
“I’m celebrating not having a definite plan by spending my days following what excites me. I’ve given myself space to be creative, and I’ve just put out a debut book of poetry. My version of celebrating is spending a long evening with friends down at the beach. I’ve come to realise it’s the small moments I’ll look back on and reminisce the most.”

4. Summer in the city
“After a long time maintaining a long-distance relationship, I’m finally moving to London to be with my partner.
“I’m so ready for a summer in the city – we’re going to make the most of every day with park picnics, Sunday strolls to our local bakery and uncovering favourites in our new stomping ground.
“I’m also excited for our housewarming. We’ll be celebrating with our closest friends, and with lots of good food and wine. We’ll be popping open a bottle of my favourite crowd-pleasing fizz, Freixenet Prosecco D.O.C., and getting the party playlist on.”

5. The friendships
“This summer, I’m leaning into the joys of being in my 20s. There’s a lot of pressure to be experiencing it all during this chapter, but I’m trying to live for the moment a little more.
“It fills me with so much pride to see the paths all my friends have taken, and no matter where we are we’ll always find time to get together over the summer.
“While travelling last year, I met some girls who I can only describe as my twin flames – the universe really did something there… Unfortunately, they live in Boston, Canada and Dubai, so our reunion in the Highlands this summer is going to be so special.
“I’ll be spending my free time soaking up these golden moments with my favourite people. I’m especially curious to see where spontaneous, unplanned moments come to life, even though I have no idea what the summer holds yet.”
