From low-key chic to head-to-toe sequins, five Stylist staffers share their partywear style rules…

Party season has officially started and we’re absolutely here for it – especially within the walls of Stylist HQ.

From impromptu post-office drinks to racing to the West End for a twinkly prix fixe dinner with those mates you haven’t seen in a dog’s age, we’re of the opinion that partywear needs to be stylish, comfortable and perfect for any body shape – which is why Simply Be (in sizes from 10-22) is here once again to fulfil our inclusive wardrobe needs.

And at Stylist, we rate brands that make us feel great (from dancing the night away to queuing for midnight chips), whether we’ve got small boobs, big bums, athletic arms and/or a mix of everything else.

Here, five Stylist staffers talk us through their own individual style and the Simply Be pieces helping them harness that main character energy for party season…

“I have to admit, I do love an all-black look and often default to leather-look trousers with a bodysuit or a black satin slip skirt with an oversized jumper. Lately, I’ve been looking to embrace colour a bit more – and I love doing this by adding pops of red (bright ballet pumps are my latest obsession!) or a gold hoop earring for a polished yet fun look.

“When I wear partywear, I want to feel confident and sexy. Whether it’s a maxi dress that complements my body shape or a sequin mini dress that I pair with cowboy boots, I always look for something that will make me feel good while I wear it.

“In this Simply Be look, I’m wearing a gorgeous maxi dress with silver embellishment. I loved how the material was easy to move and dance in while also looking luxe. The square neckline was also so flattering.

“My perfect night out would always start with hosting friends at my flat for cocktails and sharing boards – I’m a big believer in eating before a night out! Then, I’d move on to one of my favourite bars, before heading to a club or house party to dance the night away.”

“I tend to describe my personal style as a bit rock, with a bit of an edge. I blame my years as an emo teen. I don’t leave the house without a large amount of eyeliner applied and my ideal outfit is a band tee with a skirt, tights and boots. I’m all about comfort – I would never wear something that doesn’t make me feel good.

“For me, the key to a great party look is texture. I wear dresses and skirts most days, so the way to communicate that an outfit is for a party rather than work is through the fabric – a shimmer, sheerness, sequins. I still want that comfort and that chuck-on-and-go quality, so I’m looking for pieces that feel as good as they look.

“I’m obsessed with this Simply Be top. It’s exactly what I want from a party look: a sheer, shimmery fabric that feels really special, but is an easy shape to chuck on with anything. We paired it with a sequin skirt for the shoot, but I can see myself wearing it just as happily with jeans or over a little black dress. The bow detailing on the back is stunning. So much so that I might wear it backwards as well, to double the styling options.”

“My style has changed a lot in recent years. I went from being super-preppy in Jack Wills by day and platforms and shiny leggings at night to being in athleisure pretty much all the time.

“Now I’m all about comfort and being able to move, whether that’s cycling freely or dancing without restriction. I still like bright colours but often find myself wearing monochrome outfits. As I’ve got more comfortable with my hair, that’s really the accessory which determines my look. I probably dress slightly more cautiously if my hair’s tied back compared to having it big.

“Partywear? You can’t beat jeans and a nice top, with a good pair of heeled boots. In this Simply Be look I’m wearing a black velvet off-the-shoulder top and metallic trousers – and I loved the whole outfit. I was so surprised at how comfy the trousers were – there’s no dance move you couldn’t do in them. It felt like a glam outfit without being too much and I’d defo wear each piece separately. It kind of has a 70s edge to it, which I love.”

“I like to blend classic staples with just enough current influence to stay trendy and stylish without straying too far from what feels comfortable to me. I like to keep things streamlined, adding some thoughtful pieces that make the outfit stand out.

“I’m quite introverted, so for parties I like to rely on a fun outfit that makes me feel shiny and confident. I love metallics and sequins, and usually look for a swishy midi dress or a co-ord – which is why this Simply Be navy outfit is so perfect for me.

“I absolutely loved the colour. Plus, the flared trousers paired with heels are very flattering. I also love how the top is a looser style, which is something I would definitely shop for. It also feels quite versatile despite being a full sequin look – you could style it with a flat metallic shoe and an oversized knit for a more dressed-down vibe.”

“I would describe my personal style as chic and sporty, with vintage designer bags, coats and socks to finish each look. Also, box-fresh trainers are a must.

“If I want to jazz things up, the sequins and velvet outfits are sure to come out – especially for my birthday and Christmas. I look for something unique, something others won’t have. I may only wear it once or twice, but for me it’s worth it to have an item that no one else has.

“This Simply Be jumpsuit is great for dancing. My best nights out always involve a local pub, a bar with cocktails and then partying the night away to a friend’s DJ set – so it’s essential I’m wearing an outfit I can move in. Not only is this jumpsuit comfortable (I’m tall, so it also suits my silhouette), but it can also be worn with a classic sneaker during the day.”
