This is where travel journalists are going on holiday in 2019

A new poll has revealed the 2019 travel plans of Britain’s leading travel writers and editors – and the results may surprise you.

There’s nothing we love more than packing our bags and jetting off for sunnier climes (well, other than posting lots of envy-inducing photos of our holiday to our Instagram, of course). The only tricky thing is trying to decide where we want to go: we could spin a globe, close our eyes, point a finger, and head off to the country it lands on. We could trawl social media for inspiration, or ask our pals for recommendations, or pull a destination out of a hat.

Or, y’know, we could ask the experts where they’re off to.

With this clever idea in mind, travel inspiration site 101holidays.co.uk got in touch with 85 travel journalists and asked them to share three destinations they plan to visit in 2019. Somewhat surprisingly, when you consider the controversy surrounding President Trump’s regime, the USA topped the poll with 29 journalists (a third of those questioned) planning to visit in 2019.

The UK came in at a close second with 14 journalists planning epic staycations on their home turf, and Japan followed closely in third place.

Mark Hodson, editor of 101 Holidays, said: “A lot of people try to predict travel trends for the year ahead, but there’s surely no better way than finding out where the real opinion formers – the travel editors and writers – plan to go themselves.

“It may be surprising to see the USA dominate the poll, but it’s a country of great beauty and diversity where British visitors continue to receive a warm welcome. Several journalists told us they are not fans of Trump but would not let his presidency deter them from visiting.”
