There’s a new bar on the block…
We all want that great little place, which rolls off the tip of your tongue when a friend asks for a bar recommendation.
You know the kind: somewhere cool, understated but with killer cocktails and an on-point atmosphere. But with an overwhelming amount of choice, especially in London, it can be hard to find this elusive gem.
Enter the CLASS Bar Awards 2019 and voila, problem solved. Thanks to this year’s awards and the title of Best Bar of the Year, a new haunt has been crowned the place to be - and your new go-to recommendation.
The venue in question? A teensy tiny bar in Dalston, called Three Sheets. If you’ve not heard of it, we guarantee this won’t be the last time it pops up on your radar.
Positioned on Kingsland Road, this intimate space has just a handful of tables, and makes for the perfect place for a date, or a proper catch up with a friend.
The bar is founded and owned by brothers Max and Noel Venning, who hail from Manchester and have long perfected their skills in cocktail making, with good drinks being the crux of what the bar is about.
The awards describe Three Sheets as “an ode to minimalism,” standing out for having an unpretentious vibe and simple cocktails that are secretly complex. Their bottled, carbonated take on the French 75, with gin, verjus, lemon, moscato and orange flower has become a cult favourite.
Previous winners include Dandelyan in the Sea Containers on the South Bank and Swift in Soho, but this wasn’t the only award the brothers picked up.
The Venning brothers also have a bar called Bar Three, which sits below Blixen on the edge of Spitalfields market, and was honoured as Best New Bar of the Year - so also one to check out.
After being fans of Three Sheets for a while, and working with them on some delicious make-at-home cocktail recipes for our Yellow Issue, we can vouch that your new go-to is as good as they come.
