Looking to save some pennies but still have a fun month? Well, look no further.
London might have a reputation for being expensive (and let’s be honest, that reputation is not unfounded), but that doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune to enjoy it. The city is packed with incredible free things to do.
From art trails and hidden museums to ballet and comedy performances, we’ve got a whole list of what’s on for free this February for you to choose from.
The Top Secret Comedy Club
If you keep an eagle eye out, you’ll be able to catch some events at the famous ‘secret’ club free of charge, while others have £1 tickets, including Jack Barry’s All Work In Progress And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy, Katie Green’s Work In Progress and Roger O’Sullivan’s Polarized.
Royal Opera and Ballet Live at Lunch
For three Fridays this month, the Royal Ballet and Opera is hosting a series of free lunchtime performances inspired by its heritage.
Gigs at the Old Blue Last
The Old Blue Last has regular free music nights where you can catch some very cool bright young things and rising stars. On Sundays, the Shoreditch pub hosts jazz sessions for free, too.
BFI’s Mediatheque
The Mediatheque at BFI Southbank is a national archive of over 95,000 titles from the BFI and is one of the world’s most significant and diverse collections of film and television. It’s also open to the public so whether you’re studying, researching or just want to be entertained, you can settle in and watch one of the many films available.
London Mithraeum
This hidden London museum showcases the ancient Temple of Mithras and is home to a collection of remarkable Roman artefacts.
Fulham Palace
Explore the captivating history of Fulham Palace. Spanning over 1,300 years, the long and layered history of this residence includes feuding Saxons, a Roman villa and the Vikings. The house, gardens and museum are all free to enter.
The Sir John Soane Museum
One of London’s more tucked away museums, the Sir John Soane is the beautiful house of one of the greatest English architects. The museum has been kept as it was at the time of Soane’s death in 1837 and displays his vast collection of antiquities, furniture, sculptures, architectural models and paintings.
Deptford flower market
This new independent flower market opened at the start of the month. You’ll find a variety of stalls selling homemade food, pre-loved fashion, florals and botanicals.
The Light Festival at Battersea Power Station
This free interactive art trail features eight must-see light installations by British and international artists. From a tornado of light to the Northern Lights and a giant ball of yarn, there’s plenty to discover.
