Celebrate, support and reflect this month with these seven Pride events.
As we continue through Pride Month and preparations begin for parades and parties across the country, you’ll likely hear that “pride started as a protest” more than once. And so you should.
While so much has changed from 1 July 1972, when the UK’s first Pride march was held in London, the sad reality is that one in five LGBTQ+ people in 2023 have experienced a hate crime or incident because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity in the last 12 months. For trans people, this figure increases to two in five.
So while June is undoubtedly a month of celebration, empowerment and joy, it’s also a month for reflection, solidarity and allyship. Alongside London’s main parade on 1 July and similar pop-ups across the country from Manchester to Brighton, if you’re looking to learn more about the city’s LGBTQ+ history, look no further than these exhibitions and events.
