Revealed: the cheapest European cities for a bargain weekend break

Weekend minibreaks: what’s not to love?

A bit of escapism, a spot of culture, loads of good food and a glass (or six) of local wine, all without sacrificing too many days of annual leave. Genius.

Even better, a weekend trip to Europe can be seriously budget-friendly, as proven by The Post Office’s latest City Cost Barameter. The annual report, which compares the prices of essentials such as hotels, airport transfers, food and drink in 36 cities across Europe, has ranked each destination according the total cost of a weekend break.

Nowhere in the UK made the cut for the top 10, meaning there’s no excuse not to jet off somewhere a little more exciting this spring. And with some cities offering a glass of vino for just £2.35 (hello, Prague), we reckon it will be worth the trip. For the culture. Ahem.

See the top 10 list below, and get booking your flights before they’re all snapped up.
