Have you ever dreamed of flying across the ocean to start a new life in Canada?

Well, we have good news for you; Cape Breton, a small island located at the eastern end of Nova Scotia, is looking for more people to join their community.

So much so that some they are offering an 'awesome life' to anyone willing to up sticks and move there.

Situated in the island’s little village of Whycocomagh, a local business called The Farmer’s Daughter Country Market has taken to social media in a desperate bid to stop their population from decreasing.

Unable to offer a huge amount of cash for people to join their community, they’ve promised people a “simpler life, close to nature, in an area that still believes in community meals and weekly jam sessions”.

They have also, more pertinently, offered a guaranteed job and two acres of land to anyone who moves there.

Writing on their Facebook page, they explain: “We cannot offer you big money (wages in local small Cape Breton businesses are not high) but we can offer you a great incentive to come and try us out.

“One thing our business does have is LOTS of LAND, so if you decide this opportunity might fit your dreams and goals for a close to nature and community focused life, then we are willing to offer you 2 acres of woodland where you can immediately set up your tiny house or quaint cabin.”

They add: “Plus we will give you access to our farmland and other resources we have available. If you are still working with us after five years and we all still like each other after that time, then the land is yours for the cost of migrating it out and putting it in your name.”

It sounds idyllic – particularly when you factor in that the area is “surrounded by beautiful mountains and the shining Bras d’Or lake, where kayaks and canoes outnumber motorboats”.

The unique and ecologically clean environment also boasts a wonderful community spirit, with plenty of clubs, restaurants, and places of interest to enjoy in the “four-season” climate.

But there is, of course, a catch.

At this time, foreign workers cannot apply for the job since Cape Breton is not qualified for the Foreign Worker Program; as such, it can only take people who are legally authorised to work in Canada.

However, if you’ve got your heart set on joining this rural community, don’t despair.

According to Canadian law, you only need two documents to work in their beautiful country; an invitation from a Canadian employer approved by the Ministry of Employment and Social Development of Canada, and a Work Permit which is issued after obtaining a temporary visa.

Sure, it requires a bit of work getting them – but, considering the fact that Canada was recently voted the second best place in the world to start a new life, we have a feeling it’s worth it.
