The best city for a night out has been revealed, and it’s rather surprising

The top 10 best places for a night out on the town have been revealed and some are, thankfully, very close to home.

Before embarking on a big night out in a new city, a few things need to be met on a strategic checklist: you need affordable transport links, for starters, not to mention plenty of things to do and a whole host of night clubs (with great tunes, naturally).

Thank goodness, then, that Hostelworld’s recent survey has unveiled the absolute best place for a night out, and it’s only a short flight away.

We’re talking, of course, about Hamburg, Germany.

By asking over 4,000 people from 41 cities in 27 countries about the nightlife in their hometowns (focusing on leisure activities, affordability of food and drink, friendliness of the locals and experiences relating to nights out in the city), the survey has been able to pinpoint the 10 best cities for a night on the tiles. And you better believe that these places tick a lot of boxes.

Here are the other great places that made the top 10:

10. New York City, USA

The City That Never Sleeps has not been given the moniker for nothing. From the highly recommended McSorley’s Old Ale to Café con Crema, the city hosts great night life in many shapes and forms.

9. Warsaw, Poland

According to the locals, Warsaw is “friendly, convenient to get around and affordable”. And they guarantee a good night out for under £30. Well, we’re sold.

8. Prague, Czech Republic

We’ve heard great things about this city, and now they’ve been confirmed:

“It’s the ultimate spot if you want to save those pennies and still have an awesome night on the tiles, and it’s super easy to get around – all the best areas are relatively near each other as the centre is small,” reports Hostelworld.

7. Gothenburg, Sweden

Not only does this city rank very highly for its friendliness towards tourists, but it’s possible to find cheap night life if you know where to find it. From Bengans Record Store to StreetLife and Hops, there is plenty on offer as soon as you arrive in this Swedish city.

6. San Francisco, United States

The Golden Gate City caters to every whim with plenty of places to enjoy an array of culinary goodness and drinks galore. In short: you’re spoilt for choice in this city.

5. Amsterdam, Holland

Amsterdam was always going to make the list, right? From its wild party culture to its openness towards tourists, the city will forever be famed for its good time vibes.

4. Dublin, Ireland

Is there anywhere in the world that’s friendlier than Dublin? With the famous Temple Bar area offering up pubs galore, it’s definitely a place where you can rise the roof with sing-a-longs and great craic.

3. Berlin, Germany

As one of the cheapest nights out featured on the list, Berlin guarantees you a good night out on the town. And “if you make it through the doors, don’t miss Berghain, Berlin’s crowning glory as one of the most famous clubs in the world,” says HostelWorld.

2. Copenhagen, Denmark

Yes, Copenhagen is super safe but it’s expensive. Not a trip to be booked on a whim, but definitely one to tick off the list. With great transport links and one of the best clubs in Europe, Culture Box, it’s safe to say you won’t regret splashing the cash.

1. Hamburg, Germany

From easily making new friends on a night out to highly efficient public transport, Hamburg is the number one place for a night out in 2017.

We’re off to book flights for 2018…
