There are plenty of incredible homes on film and TV that we can only dream of living in, from Gatsby's all-night party mansion to Monica Geller's purple palace. So dream on we will, with a gallery of the fictional abodes we might fancy buying if we had a spare few million down the back of the couch. What? It might happen.
The Lake House (2006)
You may not remember this film starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, and there may be a reason for that. However, ignore the lukewarm reviews and concentrate on the house. On legs! In a lake! It was located on Maple Lake in Illinois and built for the film. Sadly, the production team had to leave the location exactly as it had been when they arrived - meaning the house was demolished.
The Big Lebowski (1998)
The character Jackie Treehorn's impressive home is actually located in Beverly Hills and was also used for Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and a Snoop Dogg video. The property has a bar, motorised walls and windows and an impressive pool. We'll just be out here with a White Russian soaking up the incredible skyline, thanks.
Richie Rich (1994)
The location for this film was the 8,000-acre Biltmore estate in North Carolina, open to visitors with an array of tours and activities on offer. It's available for weddings, but with the cost of hiring such a stunning venue no doubt spiraling into the tens of thousands, we'd be tempted to request Richie's personal McDonalds for the wedding breakfast.
The Notebook (2004)
The house with blue shutters is actually in South Carolina and was built in 1772. It's privately owned, so ardent fans can't visit it on Wadmalaw Island, but you can go and have a look at the film's other pivotal locations around Charleston, such as the Boone Hall Plantation.
The Holiday (2006)
Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz do a house-swap in The Holiday, and Cameron ends up staying in this beauty. Unfortunately, this is one of those movie homes that only exists in the movies. The house was an empty shell, with the exterior, landscaped garden and even the wall all constructed for the film. Gutted.
The Great Gatsby (2013)
Gatsby's incredible home is actually a real building in Sydney, but with added CGI turrets and a load of fake ivy. Although the location doesn't sound quite as exciting when you know it's the Manly Business School, we'd probably still like an invite to any incredible future parties.
Sex and the City (2008)
Samantha's Malibu beach home takes 'sea view' to a whole new level, and we're not talking about that sushi scene in the first SATC film. The five-bedroom, six-bathroom house was available for rent over the summer at a mere $100,000 (£62,500) a month. However, that dropped to just $55,000 (£34,400) a month for long-term lets. Practically budget.
The Godfather (1972)
Otherwise known as 'The Legendary Beverly House,' this property has been used in The Godfather and The Bodyguard (as well as the venue for Rihanna's birthday party and a Kennedy honeymoon), and has been on the market since April. $135million (£8,445,000) buys you 30 bedrooms and 40 bathrooms, not to mention room for a 400-person dinner party. Just charge $337,500 a head - simple.
Clueless (1995)
Unlike some of our other fantasy homes, Cher Horowitz's swanky Beverly Hills mansion is actually a privately-owned house in Encino, although its huge gates deter any Clueless fans from snapping the place. Shame, we were hoping to swing by and sweep down the stairs pretending we're rich kids with a credit card to burn.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012)
The Crudstaff mansion featured in the 2012 film is a Victorian former bed-and-breakfast in Atlanta, and this year, sold for $425,000 (£266,000) - over $1million below its last appraisal, according to frontdoor.com.
Friends (1994 - 2004)
Specifically, Monica's apartment. Yes we know it's only a set and that our fondness comes from wanting to be real life friends with them all, but we still want to live here. Designed by Greg Grande, the purple palace, mysteriously affordable yet spacious, is close to all our hearts.
Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)
Bridget's front door was the scene of many a romantic moment, but as one of the doors to the Globe pub in London, its undoubtedly played host to scenes rather less romantic too.
Gossip Girl (2007 - 2012)
The kids with the fabulous wardrobes had fabulous homes too, of course. However, despite the wealth of gorgeous gaffes on the show, we had a soft spot for Dan Humphrey's apartment. You know, the massive cool loft that poor old not-rich Dan had to live in.
Groundhog Day (1993)
The inn that Bill Murray is doomed to wake up in day after day after day can also be the scene of your very own Groundhog experience should you so wish, as the quaint building in Woodstock has been a bed-and-breakfast since 2008. Quality time with Punxsutawney Phil not guaranteed.
Steel Magnolias (1989)
The Louisiana house used in 1989 film Steel Magnolias sold at auction last year for $550,000 (£344,000), and has mostly been used as a bed-and-breakfast in recent years.
Sex and the City (1998 - 2004)
As much as we'd like to live in or basically be near Carrie's enviable New York pad, aside from being unable to top the last selling price of $9.85million (£6.16million), the current owners are not all that fond of SATC tourists posing on the steps. Even the building's former fictional resident SJP was frowned upon for taking pictures of her shoe line there recently. Naughty Carrie.
Home Alone (1990)
The 14-roomed house in Winnetka roamed by Kevin after he's forgotten by his family sold in 2012 for a million dollars less than its asking price, at $2.4million (£1.5million). We'd have bought it but it didn't come with burglar traps as standard.
