The joy of heading on holiday to America is that each state has so much to offer. Here’s our picks of the most glam cities in the US…

We’ve long had a special relationship with the US. The fact you can now fly from Heathrow to Broadway in a mere seven hours for £300 just helps to sweeten the deal.

In rounding up the most glamorous locations in America, we’ve taken into account the most alluring landscapes, foodie hotspots that are yet to launch on our shores and the best shopping destinations (so you can pick up your favourite US brands).

The following cities have it all – add them to your travel hit list…

For view lovers: San Fran

In San Fran, you get two experiences for the price of one.

You’re guaranteed Instagram-worthy visuals courtesy of the Golden Gate Bridge, but after posting your Instagram snaps, you can be in Napa Valley just an hour later, tasting the most delicious wines the area has to offer.

Make sure to pack comfortable shoes so you can handle San Fran’s steep streets – or head to the San Francisco Premium Outlets to stock up on great footwear.

The city’s mini vertical hikes will be worth it for the best panoramic views.

And when all the walking gets too much, hop in a traditional cable car and head to the Museum of Modern Art, which is a must-visit after its recent renovation.

For the fash pack: NYC

It’s hard to beat New York City when it comes to high fashion, but the best thing about this hotspot is how it keeps evolving.

The South Street Seaport district, located downtown near Wall Street, has had a glam-over and is home to the new fashion headquarters of 10 Corso Como, featuring brands such as Rick Owens.

In lower Manhattan is Canal Street Market, a boutique indoor space with a range of bespoke sellers that change regularly.

The market has reinvigorated the local area and its new indoor food hall is also a must for lunch. Beauty fans will also love the Glossier flagship store just around the corner on Lafayette Street.

If you are in midtown, why not jump on the coaches from Port Authority station, right by Times Square and head to Woodbury Common Premium Outlets – the fashion insider’s best-kept secret.

You can get great deals on last season’s designer brands (some coveted vintage Celine, maybe?) as well as Balenciaga and Fendi.

For those who love glitz: Las Vegas

If your idea of glamour is seeing your favourite A-list performers, from Mariah Carey to Lady Gaga, singing a few feet away from you, then Vegas has what you want in droves.

In addition to the best music residencies in town, there’s also the added benefit of pool parties and some of the best clubs in the country.

Vegas is also a lazy woman’s dream when it comes to shopping.

You don’t have to walk far, as most of the hotels and casinos are interconnected or a short walk away.

The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace is the perfect place to celebrate any monetary wins and browse the high-end brands, including Christian Louboutin, Hugo Boss, the newly opened Louis Vuitton store and Cartier for jewellery lovers.

For history buffs: Washington D.C.

Even if you’re not into politics, there’s no denying the allure of this city as America’s capital of decision making.

A tour of the monuments and memorials will make you feel like you’re acting out a Hollywood flick in real time, as you stand in awe at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool or the Martin Luther King Jr statue.

Once you’ve put your Fitbit through its paces, head to the museum district to see the new National Museum of African American History and Culture (Louis Armstrong’s trumpet is there, as well as a special exhibition on The Oprah Winfrey Show).

If you’re on the hunt for all-American clothing brands, from Hollister Co. to J.Crew and Michael Kors, head to The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City before grabbing a bite at Union Market.

For art magpies: Miami

For most of the year, Miami is best known for its hot temps and stunning beaches, but come December the city comes alive as an art haven.

While most other US cities are grappling with the cold, Miami Beach attracts a huge flock of visitors keen to see the latest names on the art scene, from emerging creatives to well-established names.

Art spills out into the street too, thanks to art parties and live installations on the beach.

The food and drink on offer in Miami is also a cut above the rest, whether you’re going for cocktails or heading to foodie institutions in local favourite Dadeland Mall - where you can fill your suitcase with garms to remind you of the glamour when you get home.
