More than 70 years after she made her comic book debut, Wonder Woman is finally bursting into cinemas to save the world – and the fearless warrior princess will, of course, be played by none other than Gal Gadot.
The actor has served in the Israeli army, competed in Miss Universe and gained 17lb of muscle for the film role, which sees her perform a number of her own stunts and battle choreography moves. And yet there are a number of people in the Twitter-verse who don’t think the 32-year-old has what it takes to bring Wonder Woman to life on the silver screen.
So what’s their problem?
Prepare your eye-rolls now, Stylist readers, because it seems as if Gadot’s boobs aren’t quite big enough to convincingly portray a warrior princess.
Yup, that’s right: a number of trolls have crawled out from beneath their bridges to insist that the size of Wonder Woman’s boobs is completely non-negotiable.
“Her boobs are way too small to fill Wonder Woman's perfect body,” wrote one scathingly.
Another, presumably stamping their feet and turning red from the injustice of it all, tweeted: “Wonder Woman with small boobs? Why not just shave her head while you’re at it?”
The outcry has not gone unnoticed by Gadot, although she admits that the criticism did catch her a little off-guard.
“People were very upset about my boobs,” she told The Sun. “They are not ‘Wonder Woman boobs’, apparently.
“I mean, criticism comes with the job…”
However, as we’ve come to expect from a warrior princess, Gadot refuses to let such irrelevant comments get her down.
In fact, she even called upon her knowledge of Greek mythology to craft the perfect response.
“Wonder Woman is an Amazon,” she pointed out. “[Which means that] I should only have one boob so they are lucky they are getting two small boobs.”
Gadot was, of course, referring to the fact that her character hails from the tribe of Amazons, a group of women famed for their strength, stature, and unstoppable prowess on the battlefield.
And, in Greek mythology, these warriors are also said to have cut off one of their breasts in order to better fire a bow and arrow.
Gadot has also seen her portrayal of Wonder Woman’s Diana criticised due to her armpit hair (or lack thereof) – but, in spite of all the naysayers, she says she’s unwilling to let anyone sully this role of a lifetime for her.
“Before I got this part I was in meetings in Los Angeles with different writers and directors asking me what my dream job is,” she said. “I always said it was to play a very empowered woman who can inspire other women, an independent, strong, powerful woman.
“Then I got Wonder Woman, which is basically everything I’ve ever asked for. It’s a dream come true.”
The actor, who previously said that she hopes her character will redefine what it means to be a princess for her two young daughters, continued: “She’s important for everyone. Little girls can see and be inspired to know that they can be strong, independent and sophisticated, powerful women when they grow up.
“And for little boys, they know they can respect women.
“[Diana Prince] brings a lot of values with her.”
Before she embraced everything that Wonder Woman had to offer, Gadot was reluctant to star in big blockbuster movies – and famously turned down an offer to audition for the role of a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace.
“I said, ‘No way,’” she recalled to W Magazine. “I said, ‘I’m studying law and international relations. I’m way too serious and smart to be an actress, and besides, the script is all in English.’ I spoke English, but I wasn’t comfortable with it.”
She later changed her mind and joined the cast of Fast and Furious 8, before going on to don her superhero cape.
“When I auditioned for Batman v Superman, I didn’t know it was for [the role of] Wonder Woman,” she said.
“The director, Zack Snyder, asked me to do a camera test. That was torture. They were looking at six or seven girls, and we were all in separate trailers and were told to stay inside until they called us.
“Waiting is my enemy Number One, and I was losing my mind. So, I decided to put on Beyoncé. Who runs the world? Girls! I just started to dance, and I let my anxiety go. Thank you, Beyoncé!”
