Anna Kendrick on feminism, red carpet critics and her ultimate comfort food

Last night our excitement reached fever pitch (excuse the pun) as we watched a special screening of Pitch Perfect 2 with some of our lucky readers.

Even better, we were joined after the screening by Anna Kendrick, who stars as the brilliantly talented Becca in the films, to take part in a Q&A hosted by the equally brilliant comedian Sarah Millican.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks, Pitch Perfect 2 is a new film that follows the mishaps of a cappella group 'The Barden Bellas'. Starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Seinfeld and Britanny Snow, the film is even more side-splittingly funny than the original, and packed full of girl power and brilliant music.

Topics at last night's Q&A ranged from songs to sing in the shower to the smell of George Clooney and the moment Anna realised she was a feminist. Read on to find out more and see our Instagram page for an exclusive clip from the night.

On her dream role

I have a dream to be in a Christmas movie. I want to be the Michael Caine of the next Muppet Christmas Carol film.

On being a feminist

My mum's a feminist because she's a female. I can remember when I would point out certain gender discrepancies when I was a teenager. A teenage boy would go, "you are such a feminist!" and I would go, "I am not!"

Because I thought that meant I was unattractive, bitter and anti-male. Then in my twenties I realised that wasn’t true.

On director Elizabeth Banks

She's quite a task master. She's definitely a bull dog and on top of it, very in control of everything and always wanting production to be slicker and glossier. She was always using cranes and cable cameras and stuff; at a certain point I was like, this is Tansformers but for a cappella!

On being judged on her outfits

I remember spending weeks before my first proper awards show, where I was nominated for one of my roles, on picking the perfect hairstyle, perfect makeup and perfect outfit. I thought I looked so damn cute, but then the next morning I went online and the first thing I saw was that someone had rated my look as a B+.

That's even worse than trashing me for how I looked, because at least then I would just shrug it off. But to think that someone just thought I was average, and could have done better, was so annoying.

On a singer that she idolises

Natalie Weiss, who does YouTube videos about riffing. I wish I could riff that fast – I've tried, with varying degrees of success.

On what she sings around the house

Usually embarrassing songs. Remix to the Ignition, to Big Pimpin' and Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe. Then all the way back to an old school Hilary Duff song, like Come Clean, when I'm in the shower.

On what George Clooney smells like

Sort of like old spice. In my imagination that’s it but I don’t really recall. I didn’t journal about it but perhaps I should have.

On her ultimate comfort food

After every awards show I go straight home and make myself this instant macaroni cheese, which we call Easy Mac in the States. I sit there in my dress and just eat it and relax, it's part of the experience.

Pitch Perfect 2 is out in cinemas on 15 May.
