The Spice Girls were, without a doubt, the epitome of #girlpower back in the day, and everyone who was anyone had a favourite band member. But, while we love Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham to the moon and back, there’s no denying that Geri Halliwell - with her trademark hair, Union Jack dress, and staunch feminist beliefs – was the ultimate Spice Girl.

So, when we learned that the 44-year-old had decided to revisit the set of the Wannabe music video (and recreate her big entrance), we were beyond excited.

That’s right: this week, Horner – formerly Halliwell – paid a visit to St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in King’s Cross, where the band filmed the visuals for their debut single. And, tagging her fellow band members on Instagram, she called upon fans and real-life Spice Girls alike to “remember this” moment in music history.

She begins, of course, with a cheeky wave at the camera, before beckoning viewers to follow her inside the hotel. The Viva Forever singer then sprints to the top of the stairs, before coming to an abrupt halt and striking a very familiar pose.

“This was my position,” she tells fans, before whispering a quiet “zig-a-zig-ah” and whipping out one of her best Ginger Spice dance moves.

Of course, there are some pretty big differences to the original Wannabe: firstly, Horner is completely alone – her fellow bandmates are absolutely nowhere to be seen. Secondly, she’s dressed in a slightly more subdued black ensemble, rather than her glitzy leotard, tights and platforms combo of old.  And, thirdly, she’s not tormenting the upper-class patrons of the hotel.

Yet, despite all of that, it’s still filled us with an intense wave of nostalgia.

“Like it was yesterday,” revealed one of the 125,590 people who’ve viewed Horner’s video so far.

“I got goosebumps and my heart raced so much,” raved another.

However one die-hard Spice Girls fan pointed out that Horner had possibly gotten her spot wrong, insisting: “I promise I’m not a nerd but [you were supposed to be on] the fifth step down. Almost the right spot!”

The Wannabe video – directed by Johan Camitz – was famously filmed in a single take, which meant that the pressure was on to get it right first time: as a result, the Spice Girls spent the entire night rehearsing as a steadycam followed them throughout the building.

Speaking about the experience at the time, Horner said: “The video I remember as being very chaotic and cold. It wasn't very controlled – we didn't want it to be.

“We wanted the camera to capture the madness of the Spice Girls.”

It was previously reported that Horner, Bunton, and Mel B were reuniting under the new name GEM (that’s an acronym of all their names, as an FYI), but that Mel C and Beckham would not be joining them. Yet, despite posting teasing photos of themselves in the studio back in May 2016, the comeback has yet to materialise.

“We're not re-forming immediately, but in the near future,” Horner reassured us at the beginning of 2017.

Fingers crossed that they get it together soon: the world could definitely use some Spice Girls magic right about now…
