The fashion designer has responded to rumours that the fabulous five will stage a summer 2018 reunion.
The odds of a Spice Girls reunion are akin to those of snow on Christmas Day. We hear rumblings of it, we get into a flurry of excitement and then it all comes to a big fat nothing.
Latest in the line of rumours over a girl power comeback is a report in The Sun last week, which suggested that the fantastic five were in “secret talks” to stage a summer 2018 revival.
Alas, those negotiations either didn’t go well, or didn’t happen at all.
Appearing on This Morning this week, Victoria Beckham shut down claims that a reunion was in the works.
“It’s not happening,” Beckham told presenter Alison Hammond, when questioned about the chances of a Spice Girls comeback.
“At some point you’ve gotta know when it’s time to say, ‘that was great’. Girl Power will always be out there and is something that we all still believe.”
“What I do now is still all about girl power, but it’s empowering women through power,” she adds. “I don’t think I’ll be slipping into a PVC catsuit anytime soon.”
As committed fans will know, the Spice Girls last performed together at the closing ceremony of the London Olympic Games in 2012. A reunion has been on the cards a few times since, but it’s never actually happened - due in part to their various demanding schedules, including Beckham’s burgeoning career as a fashion designer.
Just earlier this year, former Baby Spice Emma Bunton insisted that the group members were still close. She said they had been mooting the idea of a comeback for the 20th anniversary of their hit single Wannabe over the summer (again, this didn’t come to be).
“We adore each other,” Bunton told the Telegraph. “There’s so much we’ve been through. I would love to do something [to mark the anniversary].
“I think we’d all quite like to do something, but it really is figuring it out. We all have such different lives. Mel B lives in America. We’ve all got different managers.”
Beckham appeared on This Morning alongside her long-time Hollywood friend, Eva Longoria. The women took the opportunity to reveal their shared passion in life.
“I’ve mainly asked for art and wine,” said Longoria, when asked about what she wanted for Christmas.
“So have I,” Victoria responded. “Maybe that’s why we get along so well.”
“We’re both alcoholic art lovers,” Longoria quipped.
