Iconic TV series The X-Files looks like it's set for a reboot after FOX CEOs confirmed that they were in talks with the show's creator, Chris Carter.
FOX CEOs, Dana Walden and Gary Newman confirmed at the Television Critics Association press tour this weekend that they'd been in talks about resurrecting the much-loved supernatural TV show.
“It’s true that we’ve had some conversations on X-Files. We’re hopeful of being able to bring that back at some point,” revealed Dana.
Adding to this, she said that they had maintained good relationships with Chris and also both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who played FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively.
“Gary and I both worked at 20th Century Fox Television through the entire run of The X Files. It was a great experience. We’ve maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian. We’re very hopeful, but it’s hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it’s just trying to carve out the time.”
Gillian has recently starred in the second series of the incredibly popular show The Fall and David is working on a new show called Aquarius.
The series, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as a pair of paranormal investigators, ran for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002. While the main premise was for the duo to uncover strange and odd occurrences, including cases of alien abductions, viewers were also hooked on the will-they-won't-they relationship between the two main characters.
While neither actor has confirmed any news on the possibility of a new series, in an AMA for Reddit last year, Gillian was asked about the progress of a third X-Files movie, to which she replied:
“Uh....uh... uh...Sorta kinda. Keep your ears to the ground."
All of which makes us feel pretty hopeful for its return.
