Katy Perry and Taylor Swift bonded by drinking tea and comparing their star signs, apparently
6 years ago
There were cookies, cuddles and burger and fries costumes, but according to Taylor Swift, it was a discussion about the zodiac that finally allowed her to reconnect with Katy Perry.
First came a “literal olive branch”. Then a plate of homemade cookies. Lastly, a warm embrace in the You Need To Calm Down music video complete with matching burger and French fries costumes.
We are, of course, talking about Taylor Swift and Katy Perry’s road to reconciliation after a years-long public feud. The rivalry between the two pop icons, which all started with a disagreement over backing dancers, and escalated into a bitter row fuelled by barbed tweets, symbolic music videos and a lot of bad blood in interviews, is now happily a thing of the past, and the pair are celebrating a newfound friendship.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Swift revealed that she and Perry actually rekindled their bond over a cup of tea, and a long conversation about their astrological signs.
“Katy and I were talking about our signs…of course we were,” Taylor began. “We were talking about our signs because we had this really, really long talk when we were reconnecting and stuff. And I remember in the long talk, she was like, ‘If we had one glass of white wine right now, we’d both be crying.’ Because we were drinking tea.”
Given the pair’s deep interest in the zodiac, Swift went on to explain, the pair realised that their misunderstanding could have been down to a personality clash.
“We’ve had some really good conversations,” Taylor continued. “We were talking about how we’ve had miscommunications with people in the past, not even specifically with each other. She’s like, ‘I’m a Scorpio. Scorpios just strike when they feel threatened.’”

If you’ve ever struck up a conversation with a fellow zodiac enthusiast, you’ll know what goes down when you reveal your respective star signs: you immediately want to compare all your personality traits and potential compatibilities, which is what the pair proceeded to do.
“And I was like, ‘Well, I’m an archer. We literally stand back, assess the situation, process how we feel about it, raise a bow, pull it back, and fire,’” Taylor added. “So it’s completely different ways of processing pain, confusion, misconception. And oftentimes I’ve had this delay in feeling something that hurts me and then saying that it hurts me. Do you know what I mean?”
We know exactly what you mean, Taylor. It seems Perry had exactly the same sentiments, because during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday, the Firework singer referred to their public feud as “just a misunderstanding”, and reiterated the importance of renewing their friendship as an example to younger generations.
“We have such big groups of people that want to follow us and so they kind of started turning against each other,” she explained.
“It was really unfortunate, but we made amends and I’m all about redemption and forgiveness and for setting an example for those younger people that it can be cool to ask for forgiveness and confront someone that you may have an issue with or a problem with and talk it out.”
“We have so much in common,” she added. There’s probably only 10 people in the world that have the same things in common.”
Whether you’re a superfan or sceptic of astrology, all that really matters is that the days of Perry and Swift being sworn enemies are over. And if chatting about their star signs helped them reconnect, who are we to judge?
