Victoria Beckham responds to the Spice Girls touring without her

Don’t worry, friendship never ends for the original girl power group.

Dig out that Union Jack dress and find some cheetah-print flares, the Spice Girls are going on a UK tour

They’ll be reuniting as a foursome - Mel B, Mel C, Geri and Emma, or Scary, Sporty, Ginger and Baby Spice - to play six arenas across the country in June, 2019. This is the first time the Spice Girls have performed together since 2012.

“I’m just so excited,” Emma said on her Heart radio show Jamie & Emma. “It will be brilliant.”

Back then, Victoria Beckham came along for the ride. But this time Posh Spice will be sitting out the tour. Posting to Instagram last night, Victoria issued a statement that appeared to dash all dreams that she might appear with her bandmates one last time.

“I won’t be joining my girls on stage again but being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish them so much love and fun as they go back on tour next year,” Victoria wrote in the Instagram caption.

“I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time!” She ended the post with the hashtags #spicegirls #friendshipneverends.

There was some hope that Victoria might join with the remaining Spice Girls on this much-rumoured tour. At the after party for her brand’s recent fashion show in New York Victoria was seen dancing exuberantly to Spice Up Your Life. (Yes, she still knows all the words.)

Even as late as yesterday, Mel B told Loose Women there was still a chance that Victoria would make an appearance onstage with the band.

“It’s just the four of us that are fully confirmed, but you know, Vic might join us at some point,” she said.

Asked if Victoria Beckham might come to some of the shows as a ticket holder and, maybe, decide to join her friends and fellow bandmates onstage, Mel said: “I hope so, I think it’d be a shame if she didn’t… She’s got a full-on life with all of her work commitments and her fashion line and her kids, so, she’s just kind of not committing just yet.”

Maybe we should have paid more attention to Mel B’s Halloween costume this year.

The singer dressed up as Posh Spice herself in a Little Black Dress, towering high heels and a placard reading: “No I am NOT going on tour.”

If the Spice Girls are looking for someone to replace Victoria, however, might we suggest Adele? The singer went straight to Instagram when she heard the news about her favourite band reforming to share this hilarious throwback of her as a young girl in front of a plethora of Spice Girls memorabilia. (Remember those pull-out posters?)

We know she’s got the passion, she knows the lyrics, she looks fantastic in a silk dress and she can also sing her heart out.

If Victoria isn’t going to make a cameo onstage, Taylor Swift-style, then maybe Adele would be an excellent candidate for a surprise guest appearance.

The Spice Girls arena tour will start on June 1 at Etihad Stadium in Manchester and continue until June 15 at London’s Wembley Stadium. Tickets go on sale this weekend.
