Solange Knowles’ favourite selfie is probably not the one you think

One might expect that any celebrity savvy in the ways of social media might have a hard time picking their favourite selfie from the vast digital catalogue of their existence. And that once chosen, said selfie would likely be incredibly posed, judiciously cropped and, of course, filtered to within an inch of its life.

Solange Knowles, however, doesn’t often play the fame game in the way others like to. Posting her “favourite” picture of herself to Instagram, the star revealed a shot taken on her wedding day, while she was suffering a break-out of hives.

my favorite (and most true to myself) selfie ??? lol

She wrote alongside the picture, taken by a photographer through a car window: “My favorite (and most true to myself) selfie”.

Knowles married in New Orleans in 2014, and had a reaction to heat and seafood during the day. Following the wedding, she joked on Instagram, “Shout out to Benadryl […] NOTHING was gonna stop me from having my mother and son dance with [son] Julez”.

Mum Tina Knowles later credited Beyoncé for sorting her sister’s reaction with the antihistamine, telling Entertainment Tonight: “[Solange] went through the wedding and the sit-down dinner and she was just fine, and then they had a second line in the streets of New Orleans and she was dancing so hard, I think she just go overheated.

“And the seafood, I think she had a reaction to it.”

She said Beyoncé gave her sister “Benadryl and cortisone creams” and after a couple of hours in the hotel, the family returned to the reception as continued as planned – having an absolute “ball”.

Hives are a result of histamine and other chemicals being released in the skin following a trigger, which can be an allergen, an insect bite or sting, heat, sunlight or emotional stress.

As well as puncturing the must-always-look-incredible-on-Instagram bubble, Knowles has also touched upon another area where unrealistic ideas of perfection are often striven for at the expense of actually having a good time: weddings.

As these 15 brides can tell you, wedding joy is rarely in the matching chair covers or ‘flawless’ skin, but in the fact you’re celebrating love in a room full of awesome people.

Hives be damned; there’s a conga line to join...
