Sarah Jessica Parker just laid down some truth about Carrie Bradshaw

Hands up if you’re with us on this: Carrie Bradshaw was extraordinarily irritating.

Yes, the star of Sex and the City was reasonably engaging, and had some ingenious ideas about the many different ways one could wear a belt. But she was also selfish, snobby (remember the godawful fuss she made about going on a lovely countryside retreat with Aidan, or Miranda moving to – gasp – Brooklyn?), and outrageously bad with money in a way that doesn’t seem particularly adorable from the vantage point of cash-strapped 2016.

She was also a big ol’ romantic, in a way that you either found endearing or irritating depending on your own cynicism levels. And now, Sarah Jessica Parker has confirmed what many of us frequently thought: that Carrie’s obsession with “ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love” was more than slightly immature.

And in a new interview with Jane Pauley for CBS Sunday Morning, Parker acknowledges that Carrie’s attitude towards relationships wasn’t always all that realistic.

“[Carrie] was so romantic,” says Pauley. “You know, it had to be love, love, love, love all the time. It’s a sparkle.”

“[It’s] childish, in a way,” Parker replied.

It’s not the first time that Parker has distanced herself from her most iconic role.

In January this year, she told the Wall Street Journal that “Carrie Bradshaw was radically different from who I was, who I continue to be… It took real work every day to be her, to understand her, to not judge her.”

And she recently said that while she “loved” playing Carrie, she “never connected with her” – and even suggested that Carrie might have invented Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda as fictional archetypes to illustrate her column.

Still, Parker also hinted that dreams of a third SATC movie aren’t totally unrealistic.

“I will say that the idea, it rests in the butler’s pantry,” she told CBS. “Not on the table, but somebody is holding it fairly nearby.”
