Serena Williams has some spot-on careers advice for “going it alone”

Tennis champion and entrepreneur Serena Williams has shared some careers advice ahead of her New York Fashion Week party next month.

Proving her abilities to slay both on and off the tennis court, Serena Williams launched her own clothing line in 2018. This passion stems from studying fashion at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in Florida from 2000 to 2003.

The champion athlete always continued to show a strong interest in style and clothing, regularly making feminist statements through her choices of sportswear. At this year’s French Open tournament, Williams wore a Virgil Abloh x Nike cape and skirt featuring four imprinted words in French that sum up the many facets of Williams: mother, champion, queen, goddess.

So, it’s no surprise that Williams wants to celebrate the success of her clothing line with a “24-hour shopping party” at next month’s New York Fashion Week.

Although we don’t yet have any further details on what this party will involve, Williams has spoken out about why this venture means so much to her.

She has also shared some inspiring words on why, sometimes, we need to trust ourselves and “go it alone” when it comes to passion projects and our careers.

“My biggest joy is that I know that I’m doing something that I’ve always wanted to do, that I always dreamed of doing,” Williams told Essence magazine.

“I just needed to do it on my own. Because when you invest in yourself, it helps your confidence, and you’ll know forever that whether you make it or not, you stepped up to the plate.”

As Williams is the richest self made female athelete in the world, this careers advice is certainly something worth taking on board.

Explaining the significance of her clothing range on her website, Williams writes: “As an athlete, an entrepreneur, a daughter, a sister, a wife, and now (wow!) a mother, I know it’s not always about perfection, but being prepared for whatever life throws in your direction.”

We can’t wait to see what the 24-hour shopping party involves and what Williams does next.
