The one question Sandra Oh is always asked in interviews

And the answer is always the same.

Sandra Oh has been doing the rounds, promoting the new season of Killing Eve, which lucky American viewers can watch now. (Those in the UK will have to wait until later in the year.)

And in almost all of her interviews talking about Killing Eve, the Korean-Canadian actress has said that she is asked one question more than any others. It’s not who does in season two, Villanelle or Eve? It’s not even a question about what products Eve Polastri puts in her hair to give it that perfect tangle of curls.

No, it’s a question about Grey’s Anatomy. Namely, would Oh ever return to the hit series?

“I’m not coming back,” Oh told Entertainment Weekly

Oh played Christina Yang, the no-nonsense cardiac surgeon hopeful who became Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) “person” on Grey’s Anatomy. The pair’s friendship, at times antagonistic but built on a foundational stone of fierce loyalty and love, is still one of the defining relationships from the series, more memorable to a lot of fans than the disposable love interests wheeled through season after season.

Oh left Grey’s Anatomy at the end of season ten in 2014, a decision that the actress did not take lightly at the time. She has said that she went to therapy to process leaving the show, and that she gave herself two years to work through the emotions of saying goodbye.

“Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go,” Oh told The Hollywood Reporter in 2013. “It’s such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. [Christina] wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go… I want to cry right now. Grey’s has been the most important role of my life.”

It hasn’t stopped reporters and fans alike asking Oh incessantly whether she’d ever return to the Shonda Rhimes-produced medical drama, which just celebrated its historic 15th season. But Oh says the answer is, and has always been, no.

“So much love and gratitude for that time,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “But I have a new love in my life now,” Oh added, gesturing towards her Killing Eve co-star Jodie Comer, sitting next to her during the interview. “And I want to hang out with her.”

Comer, for her part, revealed that she has never actually seen Grey’s Anatomy.

“I’m actually the only person on the planet to have not seen Grey’s Anatomy,” Comer said. “And in a way, I’m kind of glad that I hadn’t before I met you… Because everyone is so in love with it. I feel like if I had watched it and then walked into the room [to meet Oh] I would have been more like, ‘Aaaah!’”

Fine. We’ve come up with a compromise. If Oh won’t come back to Grey’s Anatomy, maybe she could arrange for a boxset to be sent to Comer’s house? It’s the least she could do.

Plus, we’d love to see what Comer (and Villanelle) thinks of Christina and Meredith’s friendship.
