Robin Wright has revealed that she recently discovered that she was getting paid less than co-star Kevin Spacey for starring in the latest series of House of Cards – in spite of the fact she was previously informed that they had been given the same pay.

The actor, as Lady Macbeth-inspired Claire Underwood in the political TV series, spoke to Net-A-Porter’s magazine The Edit about her battle to be given the same pay as her co-star Kevin Spacey.

In a discussion with the fashion publication, Wright said that she would be looking into why she was given less money than her fellow actor.

“I was told that I was getting equal pay [as House of Cards co-star Kevin Spacey] and I believed them, and I found out recently that it’s not true… so that’s something to investigate,” she said to the fashion website’s publication.

“Claire and Francis [the protagonists from the series] are equivalent as far as their power, their union and the plot. I may not have as many scenes or words as Francis, but Claire doesn’t need to verbalise as much. Francis is an orator, a poet, a demonstrator. Claire is an [ego] that sits in the back and directs him, but they are partners on the same plane,” she added.

Wright, who spoke out about her battle for equal pay in 2016, believed that she had achieved her goal.

“I was looking at the statistics and Claire Underwood’s character was more popular than [Frank’s] for a period of time. So I capitalised on it,” Wright said.

But as her latest comments have proved, the equal pay battle is still alive and well in Hollywood.

The likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Patricia Arquette have discussed the dire reality of the industry.

Arquette, in fact, said that she has lost out on work since she criticised the pay gap in 2015.

“To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s time to have wage equality once and for all. And equal rights for women in the United States of America,” said the actor in her Oscar’s acceptance speech.
