We all remember Robin Williams dancing around the living room in a pinny and a hoover to the sounds of Aerosmith's Dude (Looks Like a Lady)...

And now one of the most iconic films of our childhood is set for a revamp, with a sequel of classic 1993 comedy Mrs Doubtfire.

Robin Williams is set to reprise his role as Daniel Hillard, the hapless but hilarious dad who disguises himself as an formidable Scottish nanny to gain access to his three children after a messy divorce.

His brilliantly flamboyant impersonation of Mrs Euphegenia Doubtfire (based on the children's book Madame Doubtfire by Anne Fines) was an instant hit and earned him a best actor Golden Globe in 1993.

The film, which took a massive $441 million at the box office back in the nineties, is now set to return to our screens in a sequel directed by Harry Potter's Chris Columbus (who was also behind the original adaptation).

According to Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the news, Elf writer David Berenbaum will be producing the script.

Film bosses have reportedly been pushing for a sequel since 2001, so it's great news that the iconic 90s flick is now back on.

Sally Field and Pierce Brosnan co-starred in the original Mrs Doubtfire, alongside Mara Wilson. She made her film debut as the very cute youngest child of the family, Natalie Hillard.

But the actress, now 26, has taken to Twitter to strongly refute any notion that she might appear in the sequel.

"There are many, many reasons I don't want to be in Mrs. Doubtfire 2. But they haven't even asked me (yet), so no need to worry," she wrote. "I'm glad I had the chance to be in it, and I'm proud of what we did, but I don't see how we could do it again."

Lisa Jakub, who played older sister Lydia Hillard, tweeted: "About #MrsDoubtfire2 : It's news to me! No one has asked and don't know how I would feel about it. Hard to comment without any information!"

Williams, who is also on Twitter, has not yet commented on the sequel.
