Rihanna has proven, once again, that she’s the reigning queen of Instagram.
Rihanna has never been a fan of the paparazzi: indeed, she once admitted that her greatest wish is to be able to buy her own groceries without being followed by swarms of photographers.
“This is scary and sad all at the same time,” she said previously. “I literally dream about buying my own groceries… artists sign a deal to make music; we didn’t sign to be perfect, or to be role models. We’re all flawed human beings who are learning and growing and evolving and going through the same bullshit as everybody else.
“The fact that people expect the day we sign we’re supposed to be perfect does not make any fucking sense to me. Even tragedy, every trial in your life, is a test. It’s like a class – you take an exam, and if you pass, you move on to the next. You still have to take another test and prove yourself again.”
Time and time again, Rihanna’s point has been underlined by the press’ invasive behaviour. Most recently, a series of grainy photographs (snapped from afar via a long-lens camera) were sold to the tabloids.
In the pictures, Rihanna can be seen having a passionate discussion with her boyfriend, Hassan Jameel. And, after a day of watching the world speculate as to what they could possibly be arguing about, RiRi took to Instagram with a new meme… and, let’s face it, her probable official answer.
In the shot, a female lion can be seen roaring a male lion into submission in a corner, a winking nod to the photos of her raising her hand while talking to Jameel as he leaned away from her.
“When you think you know more about soccer,” she wrote in her caption.
It’s a valuable lesson: when the public turns your personal life into a meme, respond with a meme of your own. Obviously.
Rihanna confirmed that she was in a relationship back in May, telling Vogue: “I used to feel guilty about taking personal time, but I also think I never met someone who was worth it before.”
While Rihanna refused to publicly confirm the name of her partner this time around (presumably because she wanted to maintain some modicum of privacy), the singer and beauty tycoon has always been candid and outspoken about her own relationship struggles in the past.
So it makes sense that she’s been sharing her own love lessons on Twitter.
“Just believe that the heartbreak was a gift in itself! Cry if you have to, but it won’t be forever!” she told a heartbroken fan last year.
“You will find love again, and it will be even more beautiful! In the meantime enjoy all that YOU are!!!!”
