Anne Hathaway reveals how Rihanna made her feel “amazing” about her weight gain

Anne Hathaway opened up to Ellen De Generes about the all-female cast of Ocean’s 8 making her feel good about her body.

Anne Hathaway may have a string of Hollywood films under her belt – from The Devil Wears Prada to the Dark Knight Rises and Les Misérables – but, getting to hang out with the all-female cast of Ocean’s 8 has proven to be one of the most rewarding film sets she’s been on yet.

During an appearance on The Ellen Show, Hathaway recalled an on-set story about her body in a way that should be a lesson to us all: with honesty and confidence.

“One of the lucky things about being in this business for so long is that I’ve really kind of come to terms with the pressure that you get to look a certain way as an actress and I don’t beat myself up about any of that stuff anymore,” Hathaway explained. “But after I had my son, the weight was really slow to come off and so I was a different size than I normally am.”

Hathaway, who gave birth to her first child in 2016, praised her fellow female cast members for boosting her confidence when she first walked on set (after having given birth a few months prior) to start filming Ocean’s 8.

“I walked on the set, and, you know, my weight’s a little up and I’m just aware of it. And I walk on the set and I’m my jeans, and I’ve done my best and I’m going to love myself no matter what. And Sandy Bullock looks up and goes, ‘Looking good, mama!’ And it made me feel amazing!” Hathaway explained.

She continued: “Cate Blanchett’s like, ‘Nice jeans, Hathaway!’ And then Rihanna looks up and goes, ‘Damn girl, you got an ass!’ And I, of course, freaked out and loved it so much. I was like, ‘Really?!’ And she goes, ‘You got an ass like me!’”

She also expressed how grateful she was “to be surrounded by so much love and understanding.”

It’s not the first time Hathaway has opened up about her weight. Just a couple of months ago, she pre-emptively shut down body-shamers in the best way on Instagram.

“I am gaining weight for a movie role and it is going well,” she wrote.

“To all the people who are going to fat shame me in the upcoming months, It’s not me, it’s you.

“Peace xx.”

Alongside a video of herself in the gym, Hathaway added: “P.S. I wanted to set this to Queen’s Fat Bottomed Girls but copyright said no. Continued peace xx.”

Hathaway, you’re our hero.

Ocean’s 8 hits UK cinemas on 18 June.
