Robyn Rihanna Fenty (RiRi, to her fans) may be famed as a musician, but she’s also toyed with acting, too. She donned a naval officer’s uniform in Battleship, voiced an animated character in Home and she’s even set to appear in the hugely anticipated Ocean’s Eight when it hits cinemas in 2018.
For now, however, she’s turned her eyes to the world of television – and she’s picked up a seriously iconic Hitchcock role in the process.
We’ll give you a hint…
Psycho
Often dubbed the scariest horror film ever made, Psycho tells the story of disturbed motel owner Norman Bates – and his grisly encounter with criminal secretary Crane.
As many TV addicts will know already, a Psycho spin-off, Bates Motel, has been painstakingly detailing the backstory of Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga).
Now in its fifth season, the storyline is finally getting into canon we know, love, and are terrified by: Norma is but a stuffed corpse, Norman is spiralling ever deeper into his delusions and Marion Crane has finally checked into her room.
Enter Rihanna, dressed – slightly bafflingly – in a velvet cape. Not great rain attire, RiRi...
Watch the trailer for yourself below:
We know that this rain-soaked stranger (we guess she forgot her Umbrella) shouldn’t Stay at Bates Motel. If anything, she should go, go, go while she still can. (Sorry.)
But, tragically, her story is already written. And, as such, a hurricane of danger awaits her.
“Norman is in an incredibly intense and interesting place that we've built him to when that sequence of episodes starts,” executive producer Kerry Ehrin has revealed to Entertainment Weekly. “It's this collision of Bates Motel storytelling and then Marion Crane showing up into that.
“He's in a very fragile and lonely place, and Marion Crane is a charismatic woman, she's super present when she's with him and she's very attractive – all those things are exactly what he needs right at this moment.”
It’s hardly a spoiler to say Rihanna’s story is doomed to end in a steaming, blood-swirling shower – but she has been tipped as a regularly recurring role in the series, which means that we should get plenty of screen time with her before… Well, before the inevitable happens and those screeching Psycho violins kick in, we guess.
Good luck, RiRi.
Bates Motel begins its final season in the US on Monday 20 February at 10pm ET.
