Actress Rachel Bilson has given birth to her first child, a daughter named Briar Rose Christensen, with long-time fiancé Hayden Christensen.

The couple, both 33, welcomed a baby girl on 29 October giving her a Disney Princess-inspired name, Bilson's representative confirmed yesterday.

Briar Rose is a nod to the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty, where the three fairies who shelter Princess Aurora from Maleficent's curse, call the little girl Briar Rose. It's also the name that was used in the original Grimm Brothers fairy tale in 1812.

The couple said in an official statement: "Both mother and baby are healthy and doing well. They are asking for privacy and subscribe to the No Kids Policy."

Actress Kristen Bell and spouse Dax Shepard launched a No Kids Policy campaign earlier this year as a call to action to get news outlets to stop sharing, buying or posting photos of celebrities' children taken without consent.

Rachel Bilson - known for playing Summer Roberts in hit TV show The O.C and now stars in Heart of Dixie - met Christensen while filming 2008's Jumper.

The pair got engaged later that year, however called off the engagement in August 2010 and then reconciled three months later.

In April last year Bilson told Cosmopolitan magazine, "I definitely have family on the brain. Having kids is something I want to see in my future—I hope."

Meanwhile, Bilson's Heart of Dixie co-star Jaime King spoke about the mom-to-be in May, saying "It's a really celebratory time. I'm really thrilled and happy that she's going to be on this next journey of her life." The actress noted that Bilson often played with her baby son James on set, adding "I know she's going to be the best mother."

The new parents have not released any images of their newborn and were last spotted enjoying a babymoon in Barbados in June.
