Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and Chris Pine are working together again

We already know a fair bit about Wonder Woman 2, including when it will hit cinemas. It’s yet to be confirmed whether Chris Pine’s character, American spy Steve Trevor, will return for the superhero sequel – but given that the second film will take part in a different historical era, the chances of a Steve renaissance seem slim.

Fortunately, Wonder Woman isn’t the only chance we’ll get to see Pine working with director Patty Jenkins. The pair are teaming up for a new six-part TV series, and it sounds incredible.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins has signed on to direct One Day She’ll Darken, with Pine on board as the male lead. Both Jenkins and Pine will also serve as executive producers on the true-crime drama.

The script for One Day She’ll Darken has been written by Jenkins’ husband, the author Sam Sheridan, and is based on Fauna Hodel’s 2008 autobiography of the same name.

Hodel was born in 1951 to a white teenage mother from a wealthy California family. Given away at birth to a black woman who worked as a casino toilet attendant, she was raised to believe that she was mixed-race, and that her fair skin would ‘darken’ as she got older (hence the title of her autobiography).

Years later, Hodel sought out Tamar, her birth mother. However, rather than putting her mind at rest, discovering the dark truth about her biological family threw her life into chaos.

Hodel learned that her grandfather, Dr George Hodel, had been a suspect in the still-unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short – otherwise known as the case of the Black Dahlia. He had also come under suspicion for the murder of his secretary, and been accused by Tamar of sexual abuse.

In the TV adaptation of One Day She’ll Darken, Pine will star as Jay Singletary, a former Marine turned hack reporter and paparazzo. Disgraced by a story he had written about Dr Hodel years earlier, Singletary sets out to restore his reputation and uncover the truth.

One Day She’ll Darken is a mind-boggling true mystery with unpredictable twists and turns and edge-of-your-seat chills,” says Sarah Aubrey of TNT, the cable network that has bought the rights to the show in the US.

“Sam Sheridan, an expert storyteller, has delivered scripts that entertain, frighten and tell tales of redemption and a powerful search for identity.”

Aubrey continues: “Chris Pine has wowed us with so many of his performances, and knowing how multidimensional his character is in One Day She’ll Darken, we are so lucky to have an actor as talented as he is to lead this cast.”

No news on whether the series will be bought by a UK TV channel, but it will doubtless be available to stream online. More news as we get it.
