When was the last time you picked up your phone and actually made a call? For many of us, having a proper voice-on-voice conversation is something we’d only consider as a last option – after we’ve messaged, sent voice notes and left a voicemail (breathing a sigh of relief that the person didn’t pick up).

However, when it comes to relationships any expert worth their salt will tell you that communicating with your other half is key – especially verbal conversation.

Which is why Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban refuse to text each other. That’s right, after reaching a 12-year milestone in their marriage, the pair shared the tip behind their long marriage (one that is especially long for Hollywood standards).

“We’ve never texted,” Kidman told Parade magazine. 

“We talk all the time and we FaceTime but we just don’t text because I feel like texting can be misrepresentative at times.”

Kidman and Urban, who celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary this week, have two children together, Sunday Rose and Faith.

“And I’ve had the thing where I re-read texts and I’m like, ‘What does that mean?’ and then read it to somebody and go, ‘Can you interpret that?’… I don’t want that between my lover and I,” Kidman further explained.

“We just do voice to voice, or skin to skin, as we always say.”

And it makes perfect sense. Without a tone of voice, text messages can easily be misconstrued. 

Kidman also took to Instagram to share a sweet throwback video from their wedding in Australia in 2006. 

Let’s all take note and start having a little more conversation, a little less texting.
