Prince William and Kate Middleton's son George will be turning one on Tuesday, and adhering to a royal tradition, a new picture has been released of him walking.

A 'walkabout' picture has become traditional for Royals who have little time to greet the public - first started by the Queen in the 1970s - and this is a particularly special shot of George as it is the first time we have seen of him walking on his own.

His parents, Kate Middleton and Prince William are careful to make sure he is not constantly in the public eye, but in time for his first birthday three official portraits have been commissioned, to be revealed on July 22 - his birthday.

But this picture of him walking unsupported is a touching reminder of the fact the new parents are excited to see their son grow up.

His first birthday celebrations include a Peter Rabbit themed party at the Middleton's house in Berkshire, held this weekend, followed by a small party at Kensington Palace hosted by Kate on his actual birthday.

The Royal Family are traditionally very reserved with birthday parties for the younger members of the family who won't remember their celebrations, but the Middleton side of the family are keen to make a fuss of their first grandchild.

On his few public appearances, George has already made himself one of the most popular members of the Royal Family. Last month he was seen walking assisted by his mother, Kate, at a polo event, but now it appears he can walk on his own. He may be growing up, but he's still one of the cutest babies around.
