Just a few weeks ago, the BBC hinted that four of Bake Off’s best-known stars – namely Mary Berry, Nadiya Hussain, Mel Giedroyc, and Sue Perkins - are set to team up for their very own TV show.
Director of Content Charlotte Moore said: “There will be more news on what Mary Berry, Mel and Sue and Nadiya are doing next.
“Watch this space – some exciting news to come.”
Now, speaking on ITV’s This Morning, Hussain has addressed the rumours herself – and she’s admitted that she thinks it’s a “fantastic idea”.
Speaking with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, the 32-year-old chef - who originally shot to victory on GBBO – said: “That’s a fantastic idea.
“I would love to work with Mel and Sue.”
However, when asked if she was confirming that a project was already in the works, she had bad news for fans everywhere.
“If I was [working on a show with them], I’d say ‘yes I am’ but I’m not,” said Hussain.
“Has there been a phone call? No, there hasn’t, nothing.
“Honestly, I would tell you if I did.”
Before you get too upset, it’s worth remembering that this isn’t the end of our dreams; in fact, Hussain is more than up for the collaboration.
“The idea is fantastic,” she repeated.
“I’d love to do something with them.”
As an after-thought, Hussain deliberated the wording of Charlotte Moore’s original announcement, and added: “I think that might’ve meant that we’re all doing separate things.”
It’s all change in 2017, as The Great British Bake Off moves to its new home on Channel 4.
As we already know, Paul Hollywood will be the only original GBBO star to stay on with the show; Berry, Giedroyc, and Perkins have all declined to sign contracts with the rival broadcaster, out of loyalty to the BBC.
But, while this has sparked concerns about the future of Bake Off, Candice Brown – aka the winner of last year's series – has said that she doesn’t believe the format will alter much when it returns to screens on a new channel in the near future.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, she said: “I don't really know what the Great British Bake Off will be like next, [but] I don't think it'll make much difference, none of us really knew what went on. I just can't wait to see what they do with it. I think whatever they will be fab.”
When asked to address the rumours that she is replacing Berry as Hollywood’s co-judge, Brown remained coy.
“I have no idea what’s going to happen,” she said. “I’m sure whoever does it will be amazing.
“[But] would I ever do it? I think that’s too big for me to answer.”
It’s worth pointing out that Brown recently walked away from her teaching career, in a bid to inspire the students to reach for the stars – and, of course, to focus on her dreams of becoming a professional baker.
Since then, however, she has admitted that “no one has been in touch yet” to offer her any work.
