During an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, Maya Jama reminded the host that her personal relationships do not define her.
In an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, which airs tonight (19 October), Maya Jama expertly shut down a question about her dating life since splitting from rapper Stormzy.
The pair parted ways over two months ago. Jama recently discussed post-breakup life in a super relatable way, confirming that she’s very much enjoying single life, hanging out with her friends and watching Sex and The City. And why wouldn’t she be living her best life? Jama’s presenting career continues to be a success and she’s just moved into her own house (no small feat in 2019).
But Jama also described how celebrity breakups are unrealistically portrayed in the media.

“I used to read magazines when I was little and see all these Hollywood people break up and they didn’t feel like real people,” she told the Evening Standard.
“And then when you’re in that position, you’re like, oh shit, it’s very real. Everybody just sees it as entertainment. These things never last that long. People find something else to talk about.”
And yet, the questions about her personal relationships keep on coming…

As part of the new TV interview, host Ross asked about her dating life.
“I’m not on the hunt. I’m not on any apps, basically,” she said.
“No, I’m not prowling. I’m just living my life. [I’ve just bought my first house] it’s really exciting.
“I’m trying to make it into MTV Cribs… I want to get a pole from my bedroom down to my front room, that’s part of my plan… Single life is good. I’m just working.”

Her response was sharp and reminded viewers that her personal relationships do not define her. (Also, we’d really like an invite for tea to try out that pole!)
Jama has previously talked about putting up with being referred to as “Stormzy’s girlfriend” during their four-year relationship.
“It happened to me once at the National Television Awards some girl came over to me and said ‘Stormzy’s girlfriend’ and I said ‘My name is Maya’. It then went really silent and awkward,” she told the panel on Loose Women last year.
She added: “I can’t get angry but I do think it is a little ignorant.”
The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday 19th October at 10pm on ITV.
