Mark Zuckerberg’s feminist baby announcement will make you want to phone your sister ASAP

Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that he and Priscilla Chan are set to become parents for the second time – but he made sure to do it in an entirely refreshing manner.

Taking to Facebook (of course), the businessman and tech whizz penned a lengthy post, which begins, quite simply, with the words :“we’re expecting another baby girl”.

Zuckerberg then went on to explain that he and his wife are thrilled to be welcoming another daughter to their family, which he admits is made up on some seriously strong and empowered women.

“I grew up with three sisters and they taught me to learn from smart, strong women,” he writes. “They weren't just my sisters but some of my best friends. They've gone on to write books, excel at performance, music, sports, cooking and their careers. They showed me how to compete and still laugh together afterwards.”

He goes on to talk about his wife’s two sisters, whom he praises for having “supported each other as first generation college students and in their careers in medicine and business.

“They have so many inside jokes,” he adds, “the kind only siblings can understand.”

Zuckerberg admits that he “cannot think of a greater gift than having a sister,” before going on to praise all of “the strong women in our lives”.

Check out his Facebook post for yourself below:

“We are all better people because of the strong women in our lives — sisters, mothers, and friends,” concludes Zuckerberg.

“We can’t wait to welcome our new little one and do our best to raise another strong woman.”

It’s obvious that Zuckerberg is all too aware of the role strong women have played in his life – and it’s refreshing to see him turn a pregnancy announcement, which would usually be all about the expectant couple, into a tribute to sisters everywhere.

Zuckerberg has been full of the joys of fatherhood since Max's birth in 2015, with the self-confessed “nerd” posting several sweet pictures of family life and taking two months' paternity leave.

He was praised in July for bringing the subject of miscarriage to the fore when announcing the pregnancy, the couple having unfortunately suffered three losses in recent years while trying to start a family.

“We want to share one experience to start,” he wrote on social media. “We've been trying to have a child for a couple of years and have had three miscarriages along the way. You feel so hopeful when you learn you're going to have a child. You start imagining who they'll become and dreaming of hopes for their future.

“You start making plans, and then they're gone. It's a lonely experience.”
