Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt on 20 September, sending the world’s media into a tailspin.
And, as is always the case when a high-profile Hollywood couple calls it quits, rumours quickly began to circulate as to the cause of their marriage breakdown.
On this occasion, it was Pitt’s Allied co-star, Marion Cotillard, who was accused of being the catalyst, with some sites making baseless speculations that the pair had been involved in a secret affair.
Now Cotillard has taken to Instagram to vehemently deny the rumours – and to confirm that she and her partner of eight years, Guillaume Canet, are expecting their second baby together.
Sharing her message both in French and English, the 40-year-old actress wrote: “This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into.
“I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiralling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.”
Cotillard continued: “Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.
“Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn't distressing.”
Then, addressing the tabloid speculation that she and Pitt had been conducting a secret affair on the set of their new movie, Allies, Cotillard wrote: “To all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery.
“Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment.”

The award-winning actress stars alongside Pitt in Allied as intelligence officers who fall in love and start a family.
However, when World War II breaks out, their relationship soon falls into trouble.
Paramount, in a case of either bad timing, excellent timing or with a disregard for showbiz news, tweeted out a teaser for the film shortly after Brangelina’s impending divorce was made public.
Jolie filed for divorce on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences.
Her attorney Robert Offer released a statement that read: "Angelina has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family.
"She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."
Pitt also released his own statement to People, saying: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
TMZ, who broke the news, reported that Jolie has requested physical custody of their six children - Maddox Jolie-Pitt, 15, Pax Jolie-Pitt, 12, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, 11, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 10, and eight-year-old twins Knox Jolie-Pitt and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.
