While many praised Emma Watson's UN speech, which gained the Harry Potter star the support of many of her peers back in September for speaking about feminism, clearly not all feel the same way.
Actress Maisie Williams has revealed her concerns over the speech, despite her initial support for the star, by saying “a lot of what [she] spoke about, I just think, ‘that doesn’t bother me’”.
In the interview with the Guardian, the Game of Thrones actress said that while she was a feminist she also felt there was a bigger picture when it came to the rights of women around the world.
“I know things aren’t perfect for women in the UK and in America, but there are women in the rest of the world who have it far worse.”
She also added that she was impatient with this kind of “first-world feminism”.
The 17-year-old, who plays Arya Stark on the popular fantasy series, also discussed her thoughts about online trolling, of which she's been a victim.
“There are creepy things that people say online that I shouldn’t have to read,” she explains, “but there are bigger things going on in other countries.”
Maisie first shot to stardom when she landed her role in Game of Thrones, based on the books by George RR Martin, aged 14, and her performance has won her critical acclaim.
