Love Actually followed several interweaving love stories in the run-up to Christmas – but the most memorable, by far, was the tale of ‘forbidden love’ between the UK’s Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) and his outspoken tea-lady, Natalie (Martine McCutcheon).

Now, 13 years after the film first hit our screens, the cast have reunited to film a mini sequel, which will be aired as a special 10-minute sketch for Comic Relief. And McCutcheon has opened up about what we can expect of her character in the revival.

Speaking on Loose Women, McCutcheon said: “As far as I know, lots of people are back in the cast and as far as I know, I'm hoping me and Hugh are still together because apparently we're filming together.”

When asked what she thinks the iconic Love Actually couple have been up to since we last saw Natalie rush up to greet the PM with a kiss at Heathrow Airport, she had a few ideas...

“I really hope they've had a couple of kids and I'd love him to still be doing his silly dancing, and for him still to be in Downing Street,” the actor revealed.

“I'm hoping the magic of it all will come back for something so lovely.”

McCutcheon went on to open up about her close relationship with Grant – and admitted that the pair have been close pals since they first got involved with Love Actually all those years ago.

“We just have this banter,” the 40-year-old said. “We’re so different, we’re from such different backgrounds, but it’s why we work.

“He has a go at me. I have a go at him. He’s lovely, [and] we still DM and text each other, but I’m so excited to work with him again.”

McCutcheon added that she had only agreed to do the Comic Relief sketch if 56-year-old Grant was involved. And the Notting Hill actor said the same of her, apparently.

“I wouldn’t feel right doing it without Hugh,” she said. “When they asked me if I was doing it, I said ‘Is Hugh doing it?’ and apparently, he said, ‘Is Martine doing it?’ But I know he would have done it without me.”

While we don’t know what her on-screen persona has been up to all these years, we do have some idea as to what McCutcheon’s been doing.

Love Actually may have been her only role in a major film, but the actor went on to make a number of appearances on television, including Spooks, The English Harem, and Agatha Christie’s Marple. She also, of course, was a judge on the second series of ITV1’s Soapstar Superstar.

And, of course, let’s not forget her music career. Following the success of her 1991 hit tune, My Perfect Moment, the former EastEnders star headed overseas to pursue a career in Hollywood – and, while she was there, she picked up the MTV Movie Award for Best Trans-Atlantic Breakthrough Performer.

Nowadays, she’s best known for her writing (she published her first novel, The Mistress, in 2009) and her role as a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women.

It remains to be seen as to whether or not the revival of her iconic Love Actually character will inspire McCutcheon to pursue her acting career again. In the meantime, we can’t wait to find out what Natalie and the PM have been up to all these years. Fingers crossed that, in the Love Actually universe, he’s still at Number 10 Downing Street; if there’s anyone that can take President Trump down in a news conference, it’s Hugh Grant’s PM.
