Lena Dunham hits back at blogger after red carpet shaming

Lena Dunham isn’t usually one to mince words and it seems she won’t make an exception for Perez Hilton.

The Girls creator hit back at the fashion blogger after he made unpleasant remarks about the actor at a red carpet appearance.

Hilton had previously posted two pictures of Dunham on his Instagam account, one inviting his followers to caption themselves and another with the condescending caption: “Nice to see her trying!”

But Dunham decided to respond directly by leaving a comment below the original post, saying defiantly: “I try at a lot of things.”

“Mostly I try at being a writer, director, actor, activist, friend, sibling, partner, Godmother.... Fashion is fun but sometimes I’d rather not spend three hours and lots of cash I could give to charity or spend on books and food to get ready to go out. [There are a lot of] different ways to be a public figure and I think there’s room for us to occasionally show up in public like normal people do.

“When I look at that picture you subjected to ‘caption this’ criticism, I see a day well-spent writing, reading, having tea with a friend. It’s unfortunate that the days you approve of most are the ones where I’m spending the least time on what really matters.

And the outspoken star decided to take the high road by signing off: “With love, Lena.”

Suitably chastised, Hilton replied that her comment had been “well said” before adding that neither of the pictures had been intended as criticism.

This is not the first time that Lena has refused to take criticism of her appearance lying down.

She has previously rebuked magazines for making her outfits or figure the butt of jokes.

And even though many fickle fashionistas are now praising the 30-year-old over her recent weight loss, Dunham has also been quick to correct this problematic narrative.

In a post on her Instagram page she said: "Right now I'm struggling to control my endometriosis through a healthy diet and exercise."

“So I don’t think of my weight loss as a triumph.”

"I feel I've made it pretty clear over the years that I don't [care] what anyone else feels about my body."

That you have, Lena. More power to you.
