Kristin Davis, who famously played Charlotte York Goldenblatt in HBOS’s Sex and the City, adopted her daughter, Gemma Rose Davis, in 2011.

Until now, she has been raising her little girl in President Barack Obama’s America. But, in 2017, Donald Trump – famed for his divisive policies – will be taking over as POTUS, and the thought has left Davis terrified for the well-being of her black daughter, now five.

“I am white. I have lived in white privilege. I thought I knew before adopting my daughter that I was in white privilege, that I understood what that meant,” the actor said, speaking to WNYC’s Rebecca Carroll at the Greene Space in New York (a multimedia complex that allows people to watch live tapings and broadcasts).

“But until you actually have a child, which is like your heart being outside you, and that heart happens to be in a brown body, and you have people who are actively working against your child, it’s hard.

“It fills me with terror.”

“My initial thoughts [after Trump’s victory] was that I wanted to move to the woods and learn to shoot a gun,” she said. “It makes no sense. I’m fully aware. I’m 100% aware that it literally makes no sense.

“The fear of what is happening and how am I going to make sure that no one hurts my child, even in a subtle way, which was already a fear I had, honestly, but it just became so, so heightened.”

However, like so many others, the 51-year-old actor has decided to stay and help lead the charge against Trumps’ racist rhetoric, which has fanned the fires of many white supremacists and neo-Nazi supporters, including the Ku Klux Klan.

Just as Blake Lively revealed a few days ago, Davis says she’s determined to trump hate with love – and has made a concerted effort to boost Gemma’s self-esteem by showering her with positive praise and empowering affirmations.

“I have to tell her, ‘Your curls are beautiful, your black skin is beautiful,’” she said. “’You’re beautiful. You’re powerful. You’re a goddess’ […] because she needs to know this.”

She’s not the first SATC star to speak out against Trump; Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, has also said that her character would never have accepted the future POTUS.

“She would have his number,” she said in a recent interview. “I don’t think Samantha would put up with that for a second. He’d be out. Who does have time for any of that?”

She scathingly added that Trump may be a “fixture” in New York City, but that “he is certainly not a revered one.”

“He was pretty much just a New York personality,” she said. “He was not taken seriously – and that’s being kind.”
