See Kim Kardashian West channel Jackie O as ‘America’s new First Lady’

Nothing is sacred in the realm of popular culture when it comes to style chameleon Kim Kardashian West.
The reality TV mogul has once again showcased her power for transformation, by combining presidential poise with old-school Hollywood glamour in a cover shoot for Interview magazine.
One very modern femme of American royalty pays homage to another, as Kim performs her take on the legendary Jackie O:
With a buoyant crop cut, elbow-length white gloves and a ‘60s high-neck dress, the 36-year-old cleverly embodies every facet of the former First Lady’s iconic appeal.
She even has daughter North West perched on her knee, along with the tagline: “America’s New First Lady”.
In the interview with TV host Janet Mock, one of America’s most famous entrepreneurs reveals that she’s getting a bit tired of the attitude, “They have no talent. They’re just famous for being famous” that is often levied at her and her globally-recognised family.
“I used to say, ‘I love being underestimated,’” she says. “But now when I hear, ‘They’re so not talented’ —ten years into it—I’m kind of like, ‘Okay, give a girl a little respect.’
“If I’m so not talented, if I do nothing, then how is my career my reality? And I poke fun at it, like when I was on the cover of Forbes I posted the hashtag #NotBadForAGirlWithNoTalent. I don’t mind being underestimated because it does fuel me. But after a while, I do feel like, ‘C’mon, you can recognize a little bit.’”
Kim says she is also “very aware" of raising her and husband Kanye West’s daughter, North, as a “mixed black girl in the world”.
“I’m very conscious of it,” she says.
“Kanye always has his family around and people who look like my daughter—that’s important to me. She’s obsessed with her curly hair, and if she finds someone who has the same hair, she runs to them and is like, ‘You have curly hair like me?’ And we get to talk about it. We also talk about it with my niece Penelope, because she and North look really different, but they’re best friends and they’re together all the time.”

Four-year-old North is herself profiled by Interview magazine, in a world first where fellow celebrity children ask all the questions. North sweetly reveals that her favourite food is “just Cheese! Cheese, cheese—everywhere cheese” and her song of choice is her dad’s hit, Amazing.
She says the best thing about having a little brother, Saint, is “giving him toy trucks, and I gave him a big toy bear.”
Back to Kim, and the TV star says she is still buoyed up by the prospect of fame, even having been in the spotlight for so long.
“I still don’t take anything for granted,” she says. “I am genuinely still so excited about my career. I feel like now is when someone would turn off and think, ‘Okay, I’ve done this for ten years. I’ve done pretty well for myself. I can chill for a bit.’ But instead I’m like, ‘No, let me turn it up.’”
“You can say a lot of things about me, but you cannot say I don’t work hard. I don’t sing. I don’t dance. I don’t act. But I am not lazy,” she adds.
Photographer Steven Klein captured the eye-catching shoot, and says he wanted to portray Kardashian West as “a muse of modern times”.
“For this shoot I wanted to capture feminine beauty as an expression of empowerment and self-respect,” he says. “Also, to highlight Kim in a chic manner that is retrospective of a time and yet modern. As a model, Kim is a chameleon. She can easily change accordingly to the set intention and with little effort. It is her gift: her innate relationship to the camera.”
