The world is a scorched, forbidding place – but at least there’s Kelly Clarkson. And Lizzo.

For the first time, the two singers have combined, thanks to Clarkson’s vibrant, energetic cover of Lizzo’s smash-hit single Juice on Clarkson’s daily talk show. The cover came about as part of ‘Kellyoke’, a segment on Clarkson’s talk show where the singer tries her hand at some of the biggest pop songs of all time, many of them from female artists.

That has included hits by Britney Spears (Till The World Ends), Reba McEntire (Why Haven’t I Heard From You) and Sheryl Crow (If It Makes You Happy). Today, though, Clarkson took on one of the biggest pop songs by a female artist in the world right now: Juice by Lizzo.

‘Kellyoke’ is how Clarkson opens her daily talk show, and can you imagine a more perfect opening than this? 

Clad in a sparkly, rainbow-hued wrap dress, Clarkson strides onto the stage and launches directly into the second verse. She comes out clapping, so infectious with good humour that the audience have no choice but to clap alongside her.

And she gives her all to Lizzo’s iconic lyrics like “No, I’m not a snack at all, look baby I’m the whole damn meal” and “If I’m shining everybody gonna shine”.

Our only complaint is that the cover is over all too quickly. Because Clarkson opens her show with a song, by necessity it can’t dominate proceedings. It has to be the amuse bouche – the amusical bouche, if you will – that kicks off the hour of television.

Here’s hoping that a full album of ‘Kellyoke’ covers is forthcoming.
