Kate Winslet has revealed that she does not allow her children to use social media at home.
Making the comments to BBC Newsbeat Winslet, 40, said that she is “not strict” in general but this is a firm rule.
"We're not a big deviced-up household," says Winslet of her and her husband, Ned Rocknroll. "We don't have any social media, nothing like that."
It’s “not strict” she says, “but you have to have rules I think and we certainly have those, yes."
Winslet is mother to 15-year-old daughter, Mia, 11-year-old son, Joe, and a 22-month-old son, Bear.
The Oscar-winner has never created her own Twitter or Instagram accounts, and revealed that she is “terrible” with technology, saying:
“I’m the least techie person you will ever meet, I’m rubbish.”
Winslet even admitted that when it comes to gadgets, she “breaks things without even looking at them.”
The actor made the comments at the BFI London Film Festival at the premiere of her latest film, Steve Jobs, based on the late eponymous Apple founder.
The film, directed by Danny Boyle, focuses on the launch of the Macintosh computer in 1984 and other models. In it, Winslet plays the role of Joanna Hoffman, Apple’s former international head of marketing, who worked closely with Jobs.
Speaking about Hoffman, Winslet says, having met her, that she is a “very warm person” and that the reason the role interested her was because:
“He needed her in the relationship more than she need him and I like that dynamic on screen. I don’t think you come across that very often between a man and a woman.”
Michael Fassbender, who plays Jobs in the film, says he was hesitant about taking the role, saying that he was “worried about how their late father, husband and friend will be portrayed.”
“That weighed on my conscience,” he says.
"I approached it with utmost respect for Jobs and his family and by no means did not set out to betray them. If they do see it, I hope they are not hurt by it because that's not my intention," says Fassbender.
Steve Jobs will be in cinemas nationwide from 13 November.
