Kate Winslet is one of the leading actresses of our times, but the star revealed that as a 14-year-old, her drama teacher said “I might do OK if I was happy to settle for the ‘fat girl’ parts”.

The actress, 40, who last night was awarded her third BAFTA for her role in Steve Jobs, added, “Look at me now, look at me now,” and shared a few inspiring words for women everywhere during a press conference after her win. 

“So what I feel like saying in those moments is, any young woman who has ever been put down by a teacher or a friend or even a parent, just don’t listen to any of it. Because that’s what I did – I didn’t listen, and I kept on going.”

“I kept on going and I overcame my fears and got over my insecurities… I would like to dedicate this prize to all the girls who doubt themselves because you shouldn’t be doubting, you should just be going for it.”

As an Oscar, BAFTA, Emmy and Grammy award winner, we can safely say she’s done a bit more than "OK". Take that drama teacher. 

Winslet later joined her long-time friend and the Best Actor BAFTA winner Leonardo DiCaprio, 41, at the after party. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate.
