Former T4 presenter June Sarpong has moved back to the UK from America and is set to take a role on Newsnight, The Telegraph reported.

However, the 36-year-old was quick to point out she won't be replacing the current affairs show's outgoing veteran anchor Jeremy Paxman.

“I’m going to be doing some stuff for Newsnight,” the paper quoted her as saying. “I’m not replacing Jeremy Paxman before the rumours start. I’m doing specials for them.”

“I got back to London six weeks ago,” she added. “I’ve gone from Sunday morning television to Newsnight, but you know we’ve all got to grow up, it’s all highbrow now.”

WHO IS JUNE SARPONG?

The London-born presenter began her career in radio before moving into TV with presenting roles on MTV. She then went on to front Channel 4's hit Sunday morning T4 slot for nine years until 2007.

Newsnight won't be her first foray into politics. In 2005 she famously interviewed then-prime minister Tony Blair for T4 and in 2008 she moved to the US to launch the now-defunct website politicsinthecity.com.

She also runs her own production company, Lipgloss Productions and has made regular trips back to the UK over the years for presenting gigs such as game show Your Face Or Mine? and to take part in Question Time and Have I Got News for You.
