The badass reason why Holly Willoughby refuses to answer questions about her body

Holly Willoughby – who’s every bit as famous for being Fearne Cotton’s BFF as she is the frontwoman of ITV’s This Morning – has always refused to answer questions about how she keeps in shape.

And, during a new interview with Prima, the 35-year-old decided to reveal why.

“I actually avoid talking about my diet and exercise regime because I have interviewed so many people affected by eating disorders,” the mum-of-three told the magazine. “I know that some people in chat rooms can really fixate on other people’s diets. I just can’t contribute to that.”

When pressed for more information about her daily eating habits, Willoughby’s response was blunt and to the point.

“I love food,” she said. “It’s a celebration, something to be talked over, shopped for, cooked and enjoyed.”

Willoughby continued: “I love cooking. Nothing fancy - just standard home-made stuff. I make a very good spaghetti.”

Once again stressing the importance of being comfortable in the skin you’re in, Willoughby finished by saying that she refuses to count calories or adhere to strict workout regimes.

“I try not to focus too much on my appearance,” she said. “As long as I’m being healthy, that’s good enough for me.”

It’s not the first time that a celebrity has refused to entertain questions about her body.

While promoting her role as Selina Kyle (aka The Cat) in The Dark Knight Rises, Anna Hathaway found herself bombarded with questions about her “feline fitness regime”.

She responded politely enough at first, telling one male interviewer that “it’s all the boring stuff that no one ever wants to do – it’s just watch what you eat and get yourself to the gym”.

When he continued to pursue the topic, however, Hathaway shut him down.

“What’s the deal, man?” she said, before deadpanning: “Are you trying to lose weight? You look great.”

The interviewer, suddenly seeming panicked, attempted to put an end to the conversation – but Hathaway refused to let him off the hook.

“No, no, seriously, we have to talk about this,” she said. “What do you want? Are you trying to fit into a cat suit?”

Pink, similarly, handled comments about her body like a pro back in April 2015.

After the Get This Party Started singer attended a red carpet for the John Wayne Cancer Institute, trolls took to Twitter commenting about her weight – and insisting she had ‘let herself go’.

Pink took to social media to defend herself, saying: “While I admit that that dress didn’t photograph as well as it did in my kitchen, I will also admit that I felt very pretty. In fact, I feel beautiful.

“So, my good and concerned peoples, please don’t worry about me, I’m not worried about me. And I’m not worried about you either… I am perfectly fine, perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off.”

And, of course, Jennifer Aniston recently encouraged women everywhere to turn their backs on the warped standards of beauty perpetuated by the tabloids.

Just a few months ago, the Horrible Bosses actor penned a powerful op-ed for the Huffington Post, in which she wrote: “The objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing.

“The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty.”

With so many women in the public eye choosing to speak up on the sexist double standards of the public spotlight and tabloid scrutiny, we can only hope that the narrative will be changed soon.
