As fans of Stylist will know, we’re celebrating our 10th birthday this year. Which means that, throughout 2019, we’ve be handing over 10 issues of the magazine to 10 guest editors.

Or, as it just so happens, 11 guest editors.

That’s right. For our latest guest edit, we’ve done something completely different and handed the reins over to the modern world’s ultimate mother-daughter duo – and two of our favourite gutsy women – Hillary and Chelsea Clinton. 

As in, yes, Hillary Rodham Clinton – the politician, diplomat, lawyer, writer, legend and icon. And, Chelsea Clinton – the author, global health advocate, public speaker and philanthropist. 

It all started when the Clintons met with Stylist’s editor-in-chief Lisa Smosarski at a top secret location in the USA, where they sat down to discuss their vision for the issue. There, the mother-daughter duo also explained why working with Stylist is so high on their agenda.

“I don’t want people to turn away from the news,” said Hillary, “but I think, in a world which is awash with information, we all have to be more selective about what we read and what we respond to.”

Going on to praise Stylist for its “thoughtful, intentional news gestures” – and for acknowledging “the multidimensional aspects of our lives” – Clinton added: “Stylist isn’t just sitting around making stuff up, it’s not chasing the latest conspiracy theory or whatever…

“You’ve put a lot of thought into this magazine.”

Lisa Smosarski says: “We have been long-time supporters of Hillary Clinton, so we were delighted when she and Chelsea agreed to take over an entire issue as part of our 10th anniversary celebrations.

“The team and I spent hours talking through their ideas, and I was floored by their passion and enthusiasm for creating this issue. They have so many interesting insights and a strong, thoughtful perspective on the world – from the gutsy women they want to celebrate to our need to take a news diet – which they shared whilst having a lot of fun and laughs. They had more ideas than they were able to fit in the issue, but the resulting edition reflects the issues they are passionate about and their genuine personalities in equal measure.”
