With the end of HBO’s Girls in sight, not even the prospect of a film version can cheer us much.
However, while the sixth and final series is drawing to a close, the cast aren’t ready to hand in their cards just yet, appearing on a US TV show in character.
Well, in character 50 years from now, thus giving us a glimpse of what could be if co-showrunners Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner decided to reunite in half a century’s time and give us all a treat in the year 2067.
Titled The Golden Girls, the parody – which you can watch in full below – reveals Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet), Marnie (Allison Williams), Jessa (Jemima Kirke) and Hannah (Dunham) are still fractious pals, organising Marnie’s “63rd birthday/divorce/knee surgery party”.
The six-minute skit, for Jimmy Kimmel Live, takes its cue from the long-running sitcom starring Bea Arthur, but features a hell of a lot more nakedness, armpit sex and lube jokes than the NBC original.
With Jessa dragging a drip full of morphine around and Marnie as brittle as ever (and sticking to a criminal underuse of Shoshanna), we’re pretty sure it’s a show we’d watch.
If TV even still exists then, probably more like beamed directly into our eyeballs by some kind of implant.
Watch the clip below.
We’re up for this. Especially with that directing-producing team on board…
