Gigi Hadid has confirmed that she and Zayn Malik have called time on their relationship – and she did it with all the grace, class, and positivity that we’ve come to expect from the model.

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik – who began dating in November 2015 – have broken up after more than two years together.

The model confirmed the news on Twitter, saying she was “forever grateful for the love, time and life lessons” her and Malik enjoyed.

“I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for.

“As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be,” she added.

Former One Direction star Malik also tweeted a statement, saying that he has a “huge amount of respect and adoration” for Hadid.

Praising the model’s “incredible soul”, Malik also thanked fans for “respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time”.

Referencing the fact that the press had broken the story before he and Hadid had been able to, he added: “We wish this news could have come from us first.”

Hadid previously said that using social media as a celebrity can be difficult – particularly as “a lot of the world feels so entitled to other peoples’ lives, which is so crazy”.

Thankfully, though, she has found a wealth of support and inspiration in the form of her close friend – and Girls star – Lena Dunham.

“You find your family in other places,” she explained, after admitting that she often finds herself screaming into a pillow as a means of handling stress.

“We have a great friend group where we can all come to each other all the time, and just say, ‘well, that was s**t.’”

Dunham agreed with Hadid, adding: “Gigi and I were on the phone for hours talking about a social media incident, and we were talking about the fact that sometimes you just have to shut the computer down.”

The actress finished by saying: “It’s a literal nightmare, and you say ‘it’s okay, I can be tough’, but you shouldn’t have to.”
