It's been revealed that George Clooney will marry his fiancée Amal Aladmuddin in Venice this weekend.

In a notice that appeared Thursday on the official Venice council website, the world was quietly alerted that the much discussed ceremony was going to take place, with the words 'matrimonio George Clooney' featured, which is simply translated as 'wedding of George Clooney'.

The couple are set to wed in civil ceremony at the registry office in the romantic city this weekend.

As Italian law dictates that marriages have to take place in official council buildings, the couple will marry in the town hall. However, it's been reported by the Italian press that they will then move on to the 7-star Aman Canal Grande resort, in which they will hold a reception for their guests.

George will be dressed by Giorgio Armani, whereas Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, who created the Duchess of Cambridge's exceptional lace wedding dress, will also be designing Amal's.

The star-studded guest list is set to include George's long-time close friends Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Matt Damon, with who he recently starred in The Monuments Men, is also attending the nuptials and was spotted arriving in the city today.

The information alerted locals to the fact that that pedestrians are prohibited from going through the roads surrounding the town hall from 12pm until 2pm or until it is needed on Monday.

Due to the fact that a host of Hollywood A-listers and human rights lawyers, not to mention many of the world's media and fans, will be descending on the city, the police are also on call to ensure that public safety is guaranteed at all times.

Currently, police have requested restrictions to be put in place around Ca’ Farsetti and Ca’Loredan - the building in which the town hall resides. The Riva del Carbon, which runs alongside the Grand Canal, will also be affected.

Walter Veltroni, the former centre-left mayor of Rome and old friend of Clooney, is reported to be officiating.

George and 36-year-old Amal declared they were engaged in April, just a few months after meeting in September 2013, after a mutual friend introduced them.

George Clooney famously said he'd never marry again, after divorcing actress Talia Balsam who he was married to from 1989 to 1993. He even made a bet with Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman that if he did ever wed again he'd have to shell out £50,000 ($100,000) to them.

Last year in an interview with Esquire he said:

“I haven't had aspirations in that way, ever. I was married in 1989. I wasn't very good at it. I was quoted as saying I'll never get married again pretty much right after I got divorced and then I've never talked about it since.”

Looks like Michelle and Nicole will be quids in.
