It looks like there’s something in the water where the rich and famous live, because we’ve been hit by a plethora of pregnancy announcements in mere days.

From Beyoncé to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, baby news has been appearing left, right and centre – and now it has also been confirmed that international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney is expecting twins with her actor husband, George.

The Talk's Julie Chen announced the news on the show, saying that they had spoken to the couple to confirm it.

“Beyoncé is not the only superstar expecting twins,” she said, before adding that she had also found out Clooney’s due date: June 2017.

Clooney’s good friend, Matt Damon, had seemingly already confirmed the pair’s happy news on 9 February, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada. 

“I was working with him last fall and he pulled me aside on set and I mean, I almost started crying,” the actor told them. “I was so happy for him.”

However Damon added that he chastised Clooney for revealing the pregnancy before the three-month stage.

“I was like, 'How far along is she?' And he goes, 'Eight weeks.’

“‘Are you out of your mind?! Don't tell anybody else! Don't tell anybody else! Don't you know the 12-week rule?’ Like of course he doesn't. I was like, ‘Just shut up, man.’”

“And then four weeks later, I'm like, 'We're good right?' 'We're good’.”

Damon went on to say that he thought the Clooneys would be “awesome parents”.

“She is a remarkable woman. They're gonna be great. They're gonna be awesome parents. Those kids are lucky.”

Clooney first met Amal Alamuddin through mutual friends at a charity fundraising event in September 2013.

They got engaged less than a year later in April 2014 and married on 27 September 2014 at Ca'Farsetti Palace in Italy.
